Gado Gado is an Asian fusion restaurant in Portland, Oregon, bringing a creative, Indonesian-focused perspective to Southeast Asian flavors. Located at 1801 NE Cesar E Chavez Blvd, Portland, OR 97212, the restaurant offers an inviting option for dinner in the city. Guest reviews describe the cooking as an imaginative American interpretation of Southeast Asian classics rather than a strict reproduction of one particular cuisine. That distinction is part of the appeal: familiar flavors and traditions meet an individual, carefully executed approach, making Gado Gado a good fit for diners who enjoy exploring dishes with a point of view.

Rice Table meals are a standout choice mentioned by guests, with both omnivore and pescatarian options noted in reviews. These meals give diners a way to experience several preparations as part of one dinner, and guests often find themselves comparing favorites and thinking about what they would order again. For a group, sharing a range of dishes can make the meal feel especially exploratory. One practical tip from a customer: portions can add up when ordering several plates, so consider the table size as you choose. The menu details can change, so check with the restaurant for current selections and options.

Roti is another guest favorite, repeatedly described as a must-order. Reviews also call out the blistered cherry tomato curry, praised alongside the roti for its memorable flavors. The restaurant’s food is described as creative and well executed, with dishes that invite curiosity rather than relying on a single familiar template. If you are deciding what to try, these customer-mentioned dishes offer a useful starting point; ordering a few plates to share can help your table sample different tastes and textures.

The experience extends beyond the food. Guests mention attentive, friendly service, including positive experiences at the bar, and describe meals with friends as especially enjoyable. The atmosphere appears well suited to a relaxed dinner where conversation and sharing are part of the occasion. Gado Gado can work for a first visit, a meal with friends, or a dinner for someone interested in Southeast Asian-inspired cooking and distinctive interpretations of Indonesian flavors. Its 4.6-star rating across 910 reviews reflects a strong record of positive guest feedback, while individual tastes and experiences naturally vary.

Gado Gado is open daily from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Sunday, at its Northeast Portland address on NE Cesar E Chavez Boulevard. Whether you are visiting from across town or looking for a dinner destination in the neighborhood, the restaurant offers a focused evening experience built around inventive cooking, shareable plates, and attentive hospitality. Gado Gado was easily one of the best meals I’ve ever had. We ordered the omnivore Rice Table, and my friend and I kept talking throughout the meal about what we would reorder if we came back. The problem was that we couldn’t agree, because …

Amazing service! Food is a very creative take on southeast Asian cuisines but focussed on Indonesian. I would not say these are faithful and authentic to any particular cuisine but I would characterize it as a unique American take on the classics and it's executed very well. Highly recommend the rice table, but be warned that it's a lot of food! The beef rendang is very flavorful but mine was pretty dry. The Roti Canai (their version is served with a heirloom tomato sauce instead of a curry based sauce) is very good, especially fluffy and light if eaten while hot. The rest were very good. The Treat Treat vodka cocktail with ube works exceptionally well. The wine by glass they have is too weak bodied for the flavors of the cuisine - perhaps a full bodied and earthy Zinfandel from Lodi would work better?

Ate here for the first time last week with some friends. Food was all awesome no exceptions. So good. Service was good too. Plates came out a little fast. We got 7 dishes for a table of 3 and it was a lot. You have to get the roti, it’s a must. And the one thing nobody got a pic of was the fried banana it was gorgeous and tooooo tasty! Some notes about the presentation. IMO the sambal flight should be served with a plate underneath. More extra plates in general would have been nice and the Ikan Woku (which I highly recommend) sadly came without a dish for the shells. We ate on the patio which was nice, seemed loud to me inside the restaurant. Would recommend this place definitely check it out, friendly staff good vibes.

What more can I say that hasn’t already been said? They have amazing reviews that do not do this place justice. I’m visiting from Florida and had one opportunity to be impressed and I was not disappointed. I did the pescatarian rice table. The food was absolutely incredible but what I want to take a moment to highlight is the service and attention to detailed displayed by everyone working there. My waiter wasn’t just my waiter but anyone passing by was my waiter. The young lady who sat me took the time to explain all of the options and got my order started before my actual waiter came over. A gentleman passing by saw me looking for something, stopped asked me what I needed and got it. Another young lady who brought me food stopped to talk to me and intently listened to me talk about all my plans for Portland the tea experience I just had AND gave me more recommendations simply because we had on similar earrings (I’ve added a photo of her recs at the end). They substituted the desert for a fun dessert mocktail because I told them bananas make me nauseous (despite the menu clearly saying no substitutions). I walked in a customer but left feeling like I had just been served by my family. You can find endless food reviews about this place here on Google or on other social media platforms but I truly believe what makes this place special is the human aspects you feel as soon as you walk through the door. If I am ever in Portland again, this is on my must revisit list. Thank you for an amazing meal.

I had the absolute best meal and phenomenal service here at Gado Gado on Saturday April 25. I sat at the bar and had the amazing pair of Jasmine and Travis take care of me. The were attentive, kind and great conversationalists. Now for the food. I got the Roti with the blistered cherry tomato curry that should be sold in its own. Jarred and shipped across the country in fact. It’s Sunday as I write this and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. I also got the chicken satay which was also mind bending flavorful. I went in not very hungry so the à la carte menu was perfect for me!! Can’t wait to come back the next time I’m in Portland!
