Gold Bean Cafe is a neighborhood cafe at 2131 Durant Ave in Berkeley, CA, serving coffee and food throughout much of the day. Its 4.2 rating from 151 reviews gives prospective visitors a useful starting point alongside the individual experiences shared by customers. The shop opens at 7:00 AM Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM Saturday, and 9:00 AM Sunday, and closes at 6:00 PM every day. Those consistent daytime hours make Gold Bean Cafe a practical Berkeley, California option for a morning coffee, breakfast, or an early evening bite. At this Durant Avenue address, it offers people who want food alongside a drink a clear, straightforward local option.
Customer feedback points to both beverages and breakfast-focused food as reasons people return. A breakfast bagel with egg and cheese receives especially specific praise for being generously filled, while one customer calls it delicious enough to order repeatedly. Another review highlights a ciabatta sandwich with bacon, eggs, and spinach alongside a hot cafe au lait. For coffee drinks, reviewers mention the Spanish latte, vanilla latte, and cafe au lait. These examples give first-time guests a clear sense of the cafe's reported favorites without suggesting that every item will suit every taste. They also indicate that the food menu can make a coffee stop feel more substantial than a single drink.
The review record suggests an everyday, repeat-visit cafe atmosphere: customers describe ordering regularly, including through Snackpass, and one person says they have been coming for about four years. That pattern may appeal to Berkeley residents, students, and nearby workers looking for a familiar stop rather than a one-time destination. The available comments do not describe the decor, seating, or noise level, so it is best not to assume a particular visual or social setting. What they do show is a cafe built around drinks and simple breakfast or sandwich choices. For people choosing a place by peer experience, the recurring visits are the clearest available clue to its day-to-day feel.
For a balanced view of Gold Bean Cafe, it is worth noting that drink experiences differ. Several guests praise coffee flavor or say they can taste the coffee clearly, while others found particular lattes too milky, watered down, or inconsistent with their expectations. One reviewer also reported a Snackpass reward issue. If you have a preferred milk ratio, espresso strength, or app reward question, confirming it when ordering may help set expectations. With its Berkeley address, broad daily hours, and menu items noted by regulars, this cafe is worth considering for a casual coffee-and-breakfast stop. It is also a useful option when you want to compare firsthand notes on both sandwiches and specialty drinks before visiting.

Sign in to reviewDisappointing experience with both the app and the drinks. My boyfriend and I use Snackpass to order from here all the time. After 20 purchases you’re supposed to get a free drink, but the app just says “menu items for this reward have been removed.” The drinks haven’t been removed though and the reward is for a free drink. This sucks because the drinks are okay in terms of quality but we kept going there to get our free reward, only for it to not be honored. The customization options on the app are also super annoying. The drinks are way too milky because they use whole milk, and there’s no option for 2%. If you want to fix the flavor by adding espresso shots, you can't just add 1 extra shot. You’re forced to pay $3 for 2 extra shots. Adding it all up, a $7 medium coffee turns into $10! I tried ordering a large coffee and added a note asking for “a little less milk.” They literally just gave me a medium sized drink in a large cup. It had less milk, but also less coffee, ice, and everything else. I basically paid for a large just to get a medium. I tried emailing both Gold Bean and Snackpass to fix this, but nobody responded, so I’m leaving a review here.
coffee flavours are awesome but why are they so milky? i got the Spanish latte and the taste was amazing but 1) espresso was at the bottom, should always be milk first and 2) I could barely see any coffee tainting the drink, it looked white like it was just almond milk. i was unsure if two shots were actually included The veggie bagel with avocado and cc and tomato is amazing. I would love to try more drinks but this is the second time I have gone and for some reason the coffee looked like it barely had any in there
My partner and I come here as often as we can, primarily for their breakfast bagel. Absolutely delicious and no skimping on the egg and cheese here. Delicious.
I had a hot cafe au late with a ciabatta sandwich that had bacon eggs and spinach was delicious.. i was going to add a shot of espresso to my coffee because everywhere else taste like milk here it’s perfect, i can actually taste the coffee.
I’ve been coming here for about four years and over the last four years the food and drinks specifically the drinks have just gotten worse. This morning I got a hot vanilla latte with oat milk. The drink itself taste water down but simultaneously like burned coffee and I paid for two extra pumps of vanilla. There’s not a single drop of vanilla in my drink. On top of that when I picked it up, I thought it felt a little light and I took the cap off and there’s about an inch of room left in the cup…
