Golden Crust Bakery is a Chinese bakery at 18 Hudson St in Boston, MA 02111, in the city’s Chinatown. It’s a convenient stop for anyone looking to explore Chinese-style baked goods alongside fresh mochi desserts. Customer reviews mention a wide selection of items, including cakes, buns, cheesecake, and filled mochi. Whether you’re stopping in after work or choosing a treat to share, the bakery offers several different flavors and textures to consider.

Mochi is one of the most frequently mentioned specialties. Reviewers describe fresh mochi with a pleasantly chewy texture, including versions paired with mango ice cream or sorbet, strawberry, and cream cheese flavored with mango and yuzu. Toppings mentioned include coconut flakes and crunchy butter biscuit or cookie pieces. These combinations bring together soft, stretchy mochi and creamy or fruity fillings, making them a good choice for customers who enjoy desserts with contrasting textures. Some reviewers note that the ice cream can melt quickly, so it may be best enjoyed soon after it is served.

The bakery’s other customer-mentioned favorites include mango and taro mochi, pineapple and taro buns, custard buns, and cheesecake. That variety makes Golden Crust Bakery worth considering when different people in a group want different kinds of sweets: one person might choose a filled bun, while another tries a fruit-forward mochi or a slice of cheesecake. Reviews also describe the shop as cute and mention its many items, giving visitors options to browse rather than arriving for only one specific pastry. Individual tastes differ, as they do with any bakery, so trying a flavor that appeals to you is a practical way to start.

Located at 18 Hudson St, Golden Crust Bakery is open every day of the week from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., according to its listed hours. The early opening makes it an option for a morning bakery stop, while the evening hours suit a dessert run later in the day. Its listed customer rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 71 reviews. For local residents, Chinatown visitors, and anyone seeking a Chinese bakery in Boston, the combination of buns, cakes, cheesecake, and fresh mochi gives the shop a range of treats to explore. I got the mochi with mango ice cream, with strawberry fruit, and coconut flakes as the topping. It was delicious! It has a nice chew and the mango ice cream was yummy. The ice cream did melt really quickly, but it was still very tasty! It was made fresh and it didn't take too long. Their cakes and pastries look really delicious and I look forward to coming here to try everything else! It's in the basement and there aren't any seatings since it's small.

As a big fan of Crystal Bakery in Newton, I was excited to hear that there was a fresh mochi dessert shop in Chinatown! The shop is cute and has many many items. I wasn't a big fan of the mochi. I got the fresh mochi filled with mango and mango/yuzu cream cheese, covered in cookie shards. The mochi was very thick, sticky, and gluey. The mango was good but there wasn't much of it. The cream cheese has good flavor but is quite rich on top of the thick mochi. And it's $9, which is steep! I much prefer the pillowy, cream filled mochi at Crystal Bakery. We also tried the salt bread, which I thought was decent but not great. It's on the soft side. It's not quite buttery enough for me. I wish the salt was more evenly distributed along the length of the bread so that you can have some with each bite. Finally, we tried the mini basque cheesecake. While it looks like a basque cheesecake, it tastes like a typical Asian bakery cheesecake. Overall nothing we had here was particularly memorable. Their sponge cakes and fluffy cheesecakes looked good, so maybe I'll come back for that...
