If you are searching for a Chinese bakery in Rosemead, California with a strong local following, this is one of the names that comes up again and again.
The signature item here is clearly the Portuguese egg tart. Review after review mentions the creamy custard, balanced sweetness, and satisfying texture. Customers describe the filling as just sweet enough, smooth and rich without tasting overly eggy, while the crust gets praise for its crunch and flakiness. Several reviewers say the tarts are always fresh, and many prefer buying a full box or dozen at a time. For people who care most about what to order first at Phu's Bakery, the answer is easy: the Portuguese egg tarts are the reason many regulars make the trip.
Beyond the tarts, Phu's Bakery also offers other baked goods and cakes, making it a practical stop when you want dessert for home, a small gathering, or something to share with family. The shop is known more for the quality of the pastries than for a polished storefront, so the experience feels straightforward and local rather than fancy. That no-frills character is part of what many customers appreciate: you go for the bakery items, not for a dressed-up presentation. It is a good fit for nearby residents, pastry lovers, and anyone exploring Asian bakeries in the San Gabriel Valley.
Because the bakery sits in a high-traffic plaza on Garvey Avenue, weekends can get busy. Reviews mention small lines at times and note that parking may be harder to find during peak hours, even though the plaza itself has parking available. If you want the smoothest visit, going earlier in the day or on a weekday may help. Customers have also noted a $20 minimum for credit card purchases, which is useful to know before you stop by. These small practical details matter when planning a quick bakery run in Rosemead, CA.
Open Tuesday through Sunday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and closed on Mondays, Phu's Bakery is a dependable choice for fresh pastries in Rosemead. Whether you are picking up a dozen egg tarts for a get-together, bringing dessert to a friend's house, or simply satisfying a craving, this local Chinese bakery offers a focused menu and a product people genuinely talk about. Sign in to reviewPortuguese egg tarts are really tasty, the filling is just sweet enough and the size of each tart is perfect. Not the flakiest crust, if that’s what you like, but definitely worth grabbing a box!
We always come here for the Portuguese Egg Tarts only ($2 each) and parking is always terrible on the weekends. It is located in a very busy plaza on Garvey. The tarts are always good and fresh, creamy and crunchy. This chef who used to work at Jim’s Bakery. The store front and inside aint pretty so dont bring your date here. Custom service is a hit or miss. Minimum for credit card is $20. Sometimes they do sold out so call before going!
The Portuguese egg tarts are great here but they also sell other baked goods and cakes. The location is located in a nondescript strip mall with plenty of parking. On the weekends, there could sometimes be a small line of customers. They require a minimum of $20 for credit card charges.
The egg tarts are delicious! I’ve ate the famous egg tarts in Portugal but they were dense and too sweet compared to these. Closed to go inside the store, only order at the door with one person working. Be prepared for a long line on the weekends.
After trying it at my friend's place, I got to get me some of these. One of the best egg tarts I have ever had. The egg custard is very delicious, excellent creaminess, and it doesn't taste too eggy. The crust has a great crunchiness to it, very flaky. 1 dozen for $18, I believe it is a good price, each of the tarts is pretty big. My wife and I love it very much.
