Sign in to reviewIt’s alright but alot of shady products. I bought this “Dubai chocolate” and it did not taste like chocolate. And there was no pistachio sauce inside. It was fake green crunchy cereal. I’m disappointed with this Chinese version. Don’t buy!
When Service Turns Sour in One of the Best Chinese Supermarkets in Houston. I came here for Chinese medicine, but I left with a lesson in bad manners. I walked into GW Supermarket in Houston Chinatown expecting to shop for snacks and Chinese medicine… but instead, I walked straight into a scene that felt more like a drama than a grocery trip. A security guard stopped me mid-aisle and ordered me to stop taking pictures. There was no sign posted anywhere, no polite explanation, just a cold “you cannot record.” Imagine that — being scolded in the middle of a supermarket when all I wanted was to share how amazing this place usually is. And it didn’t stop there. Later, when I asked the same guard for help finding someone at the medicine counter, he shrugged and told me, “I don’t know.” Not even an attempt to assist. The irony? He had no problem ordering me around earlier, but when it came to actually helping a paying customer, suddenly it wasn’t his concern. Rude, dismissive, and honestly shocking. Thankfully, not everyone here is like that. One incredibly kind cashier at the very last lane stepped up, went into the counter herself, and got me the cough medicine I needed — even though it wasn’t her job. She was polite, patient, and genuinely saved my experience from being ruined. That’s the kind of service that keeps customers loyal. But then came the checkout lane, where Apple Pay wasn’t working. Instead of helping, another cashier acted as though the problem was me. Her tone was sharp, dismissive, and downright condescending. She was rude not only to me, but also to another customer beside me. When I told her she could have just explained things more nicely, she argued back, as if kindness was too much to ask. Here’s the truth: GW Supermarket is still one of the best Chinese supermarkets in Houston. Their variety is unbeatable — from rare sauces and noodles to new snacks you can’t find anywhere else, and one of the best selections of Chinese medicine in town. I’ll keep coming back for that. But no matter how good the shelves are, bad service can destroy loyalty faster than empty inventory. GW Supermarket has built its reputation on variety; now it needs to protect it with respect.🫡 Approved by your Review Queen ✨ Powered by Monkey King Media 💡 “A great supermarket can lose loyalty faster than it loses inventory — don’t let service ruin what products have built.”
5/5 meat/butcher I stopped by GW Supermarket to buy more meat for a dish I was making. I was surprise the prices are affordable compared to others local brands. My first time making Bo kho, GW butcher helped me select the correct cut and showed how to "select" the right cut. I needed beef shank- a sharp knife is. Necessary to cut through this meat sadly as a 1st time cook all my knives are dull. I asked to help me cut meat into 2 inch pieces to my surprise they did. I have gone to other super markets and they would say no or the machine is down. I appreciate that they offer to help you . Thank you
Great adventure exploring every aisle of this supermarket. Huge offerings of sauces, noodles, snacks, seafood, etc. Found two brands of “stinky tofu” and bought both. Only place so far that carry this unusual item !!!
Underrated Asian grocery store. Very competitive prices. Lots of fresh Asian fruits and vegetables. Extensive seafood section with things like live eel, frogs and turtles. They also have a large selection of unique Asian snacks and candies. Parking is tricky since it’s in a busy shopping center shared with many other popular restaurants.
