H K Market is a well-known Asian grocery store situated in the heart of Los Angeles, California. Open every day of the week from 7 AM to nearly 10 PM, H K Market offers flexible hours that accommodate early risers and evening shoppers alike, making it a convenient stop for anyone in the LA area looking for authentic Asian ingredients and prepared foods.
The standout attraction at this Asian grocery store is undoubtedly the HK Chicken. Customers rave about this signature item—a whole chicken fried using traditional Korean methods, available for around $20 with a short 20-minute wait. In a neighborhood filled with Korean food options, H K Market remains one of the few places where you can find this style of chicken prepared the old-fashioned way. Beyond the poultry counter, the store carries a broad selection of Asian groceries ranging from pantry staples and fresh produce to specialty items that serve Korean, Chinese, and other Asian cooking traditions.
Another highlight that loyal customers love is the beauty counter tucked inside the store. Many shoppers describe it as a hidden gem of H K Market. Staff members are known for being helpful and knowledgeable, walking customers through various skincare options including popular face masks and recommending products based on individual needs. Whether you are searching for Korean beauty products or general Asian skincare solutions, the beauty section adds an extra dimension to the shopping experience that goes well beyond typical grocery fare.
In terms of atmosphere and practicality, H K Market provides a comfortable environment for browsing and shopping. Customers appreciate the wide variety of goods available under one roof, from ready-to-eat meals to fresh vegetables and household essentials. It is worth noting that the selection of prepared foods can vary depending on the time of day, so visiting earlier tends to yield the best options. While some reviewers have mentioned that the store's physical upkeep could use attention, the overall consensus is that the product range and helpful staff more than compensate for any cosmetic shortcomings.
For residents and visitors of Los Angeles, especially those in or near Koreatown, H K Market serves as a reliable neighborhood destination for all things Asian grocery. Its central location on Western Avenue makes it easy to reach, and the daily operating schedule provides ample time to shop at your own pace. Whether you are stocking up on ingredients for a home-cooked Korean meal, grabbing the famous HK Chicken for dinner, or exploring the beauty aisle for new skincare finds, this Los Angeles staple delivers a genuine and practical Asian grocery experience right in the middle of KTown.

Sign in to reviewLots of nice goodies at this supermarket. The gem in the market is HK Chicken. One of the few places in KTown where you can find original KFC as it is fried the traditional, whole. Really good. Its only $20 and takes 20 mins. I highly suggest!
We went to HK Market for the first time on a Sunday night looking for ready to eat meals similar to H Mart. The main food place was already closed and it was slim selections for pre-cooked food due to already being the end of the day. We went towards the back and saw a Korean woman patiently waiting for customers that would like fried chicken wings or even a whole chicken. We got the whole fried chicken (took about 20 mins for her to cook it). We didn't know what to expect when bringing it back home to eat and wondered if we needed to cook it more. The smell of this fried chicken was fantastic and when cutting into pieces we immediately noticed it was cooked perfectly and very delicious. It came with radish cubes and hot sauce that was pretty good. What a nice unexpected surprise for dinner. Will definitely go back and buy another!
HK is a great store all-around, but this particular review is a shoutout to the beauty counter and the lovely folks who work there (it's the hidden gem of this store, IMO!). The first time I came, I was looking for some face masks and the associate walked me through the options and recommended a couple. I took them home, along with some free samples she gave me (I only spent like $5 so the free samples were a very sweet gesture). Since then, I've been back and always received great service. The prices are as good as you'll find anywhere, and they have a large selection of products that are legitimately good and not just overhyped by marketing. It feels nice to spend my money with humans and not some corporate behemoth. Definitely check it out, whether you're looking for groceries or just want a nice, no-frills skincare shopping experience.
I feel sad for this property. It’s easy to love but seems like they didn’t bother with the maintenance. Very dissapointing. It looks like an ex Ralph’s property. I saw the pictures on reviews from years ago, it looked amazing and clean. However, in the case when we got there. Their refrigeration systems need a huge upgrade. All of them had that musty smell, the kind that you smell in an old fridge. Some of the products were stuck in freezer frost or what you call: ice built up. Ice inside the bags, too. I love the choices of the products but just needed to see expiration dates. I saw instant noodles that had March 2026 expiration dates and we were there in the beginning of February 2026. At the cashier, we had 6 drunk men that took a long time for us to get out and just scary and I was on alert the whole time I was there. I was glad that my husband was there cause usually I always go groceries only with my 8yo girl.
It's a good place to shop comfortably. However, the vegetables don't feel fresh compared to other places.
