Hing Long Oriental Food Market is a well-known Chinese supermarket located on El Cajon Boulevard in San Diego, California. Situated at 4644 El Cajon Blvd #104, this compact grocery store has served the local community for years, offering an authentic selection of Asian groceries that draws home cooks and restaurant owners alike. Open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Hing Long provides a convenient stop for anyone looking to stock up on specialty ingredients without making the long drive to larger Asian supermarket chains across town.

Walking into Hing Long, you will find a surprisingly wide variety of products packed into a modest space. The shelves carry essential items from Vietnam, China, Thailand, and other parts of Asia. Customers regularly praise the availability of authentic Thai curry pastes, including the popular Mae Ploy brand in red, green, yellow, and panang varieties — all free from MSG. Fresh seasonal vegetables and even home-cooked prepared foods round out the inventory, making it a practical one-stop shop whether you are planning a weeknight dinner or running a catering prep.

One of the standout items that keeps customers coming back is the egg rolls. According to longtime patrons, these are among the best in San Diego — crispy on the outside, well-seasoned inside, and consistently delicious every time you visit. Whether you are planning a family gathering, a potluck with friends, or simply craving a satisfying snack, the egg rolls alone are worth the trip. Beyond this beloved favorite, the store stocks a range of other prepared and semi-prepared items that reflect the diverse culinary traditions of the region.

Pricing at Hing Long is generally considered fair and competitive, often matching or beating prices at larger stores like 99 Ranch Market. While some customers note that prices have increased modestly in recent years, the overall value remains a strong draw for budget-conscious shoppers. The store's no-frills, warehouse-style layout may feel a bit cluttered to first-time visitors, but regulars appreciate that this practical approach keeps costs down and prioritizes substance over presentation. It is worth noting that the store tends to cater to customers making larger purchases, so those buying just one or two small items may find the experience less streamlined than at a conventional grocery store.

For residents of San Diego and the surrounding neighborhoods, Hing Long Oriental Food Market offers a reliable source for authentic Asian groceries at reasonable prices. Whether you are a home cook searching for specialty ingredients, a devoted fan of outstanding egg rolls, or someone who appreciates a straightforward shopping experience, this neighborhood supermarket is well worth exploring. Stop by during operating hours any day of the week and see why so many local shoppers keep Hing Long on their regular rotation.

Good selection and fair prices. Update: Prices have increased a bit, but the wide variety of items has stayed the same. Mae Ploy is my favorite brand of authentic Thai curry paste without MSG. They sell red, green, yellow, and panang curry pastes.

Small ethnic market that carries most essentia products from Vietnam and fresh seasonal vegetables, even some home cooked items. Prices are better than or comparable to 99 ranch and bigger supermarkets.

Bare bones, feels intended for restaurant owners. Only needed a couple of things and was given the vibe I didn't spend enough to use a credit card though they did let me pay with my CC. The place is disorganized and cluttered. Finding what you are looking for is challenging. I'd be more inclined to go more often if they cleaned up the empty boxes and organized better.

We go here just for the egg rolls. They're the best and they're just as good as everyone has told you they are. Unless they said they're overrated or not good. Those people are liars. They're incredible.

I would rate this a negative 5 if possible! They need to be turned into the health board!!!! If you can hold your breath long enough to stay in the store, (the smell is so horrific! It's like sewer mixed with garbage - and before anyone tries to say you've never been to one of these places before, correction- yes I have. MANY, and none of them smell like this!!!!!) you'll see multiple dead flies on the vegetables and shelves, heavy dirt on the utensils they sell (proof nothing is cleaned in there) block's of unwrapped meat in the freezer section with open cans that the lip is touching the meat & dead rats outside the door. I'm sure I could go on, but this is the 1st time I've had to leave a store because I couldn't handle being in such disgusting premises!
