Sign in to reviewthis is a good spot in Rockridge. Try the Laksa noodle soup it is super flavorful and comforting. Also really liked the Woodinville mule, nice whiskey take on a mule super it went great with the food. Chill vibe and friendly service, I’ll definitely be back.
We went when they opened at 4 pm on a Saturday after a show. Not only were they opened, but they seated us promptly. This is a nicely laid-out restaurant in the Rockridge area. They have a large vegan menu, and the food is authentic. I bit on the higher side but likely comparable to the neighborhood.
I’ve been to Holy Basil Pho and Cocktail Bar a few times before and never had issues. Usually I’m served by a younger Asian male who checks in, listens, and gives solid portions. So I know what the service and food are supposed to be like. This last visit (4/18 around 4:30–5:10pm) was completely different, and honestly I hate that I am writing this. The manager (older Asian lady) took my order while actively doing other things and didn’t stop to give her full attention. I was literally in the middle of ordering and she kept moving around like it didn’t matter. When I pointed it out, she said she could remember it and kept going. That already felt off. I ordered beef pho with brisket and tendon only. (Usually it comes with another option) When the food came out, there was barely any meat in the bowl—way less than what I’ve been given before. When I said something, she told me that’s just how it comes, which I know isn’t true based on my previous visits. I also asked for extra toppings. When I followed up, she questioned me and said they were already added. They weren’t. At all. On top of that, I asked if it was too late to request light ice in my drink, and while answering me she started walking away mid-conversation. The whole interaction felt dismissive from start to finish. Not being listened to, being told things were added when they weren’t, and having my concerns brushed off instead of fixed. (Fixed last minute) the way I was treated felt different enough that it didn’t come across as random. It made the experience even more uncomfortable. I have never experienced this ordering from them and it’s honestly upsetting. if it was a white customer or an Asian customer, she would’ve stopped what she was doing and gave them her undivided attention. Sadly she felt comfortable to do that to me as a young AA woman. I felt like it had a racist tone, I’m not saying she is racist but Knowing This restaurant is in a predominantly white neighborhood, I know for a fact she would’ve never did that or got away with that with her white customers. I ended up just eating and leaving because I was hungry and had already driven there, but I did not feel good being there. The apology I got felt half-hearted and full of excuses. Unfortunately I won’t be returning.
HOLY BASIL has plenty of Gluten Free options and a knowledgeable staff! Their pho broth is not too rich, but decent flavor. Their beef pho is good though, but in my honest opinion Their Fried Roll apatizer is THE BEST. I'd come here to order 3 of em and leave without pho next time.
I like the broth which is flavorful and clear but not salty. You can choose 3 different items. Lots of condiments for the pho. The decor is nice. The place tends to be tranquil and quiet. The staffs are super nice. Would come back again. Happy hour everyday 4-6 pm.
