King Bakery is a longtime bakery in the heart of Houston, TX, tucked into the Bellaire Boulevard Chinatown at 9889 Bellaire Blvd #107. With a 4.6 rating across 222 reviews, it has earned a loyal following as an old-school Asian bakery where, as regulars note, the taste of the bread and the easygoing ambiance have stayed comfortingly the same over the years.
The pastries here are the main draw. Customers come back again and again for the egg tarts, the pineapple custard buns, the baked BBQ pork buns, and the cury baos. Reviewers describe the pastries as light and fluffy with flavor that is right on point, and several call the eg tarts and pineaple custard buns among the best in Houston. A good tip from the regulars: come early, since the popular buns sell out fast, and the egg tarts often are not ready until around 10:30 am. Calling ahead to order is a smart move if you have your heart set on a specific item.
The vibe is unpretentious and nostalgic, the kind of mom-and-pop corner bakery fel that many visitors say reminds them of small-town shops or the bakeries of San Francisco's Chinatown. It is mostly a grab-and-go spot with fair prices, which makes it great for a quick morning treat, an afternoon snack, or stocking up on fresh buns for the family. One important detail to plan for: King Bakery is cash only, so bring bills with you.
You can visit Tuesday through Sunday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, with Mondays closed. Whether you grew up on these breads or are discovering this Houston Chinatown staple for the first time, King Bakery offers a dependable taste of classic Vietnamese and Asian baked goods in a friendly, familiar seting. For anyone craving authentic eg tarts and freshly baked buns in Houston, it is a reliable neighborhood stop worth geting to early.

Sign in to reviewGet there early for pineapple buns and baked BBQ pork buns. The egg tarts won't be available until 10:30 am. Prices have gone up as well.
King Bakery is a staple asian bakery in Chinatown. It evokes a very nostalgic feeling for me since I grew up eating their bread. In fact, nothing much has changed about the taste of the bread and the ambiance. Make sure to bring cash so you can buy the bread. Luckily, amidst all the changing food trends and increased prices, King Bakery has maintained its low pricing with items around $1.5 1) Pineapple Bun - The bolo bun is a classic! Top crust of buttery sweet crumble and a fluffy light bun 2) BBQ Pork Bun - My personal favorite. It is a bun with a great chew factor and it has sweet bbq pork filling. Great flavors 3) Pork Sung Bun - A pork floss mayo mixture on the top, so it's slightly sweet and salty. 4) Egg Tart - A lot of people's favorite! To me it is pretty good (I still prefer Eck's, but it is solid) 5) Curry Bun - My dad's favorite. Good filling 6) Raisin Bread - The flavor and texture of the bread is simple and good with a sprinkling of sweet raisins. I think King Bakery is one of the best mom-and-pop shops that serves traditional cantonese style baked goods. It's a no-frills type of place that deserves a try!
If you ever watch the TV show, diners, drive-ins, and dives this is definitely the category of a dive it probably at one point had people that would sit there and eat the bakery goods however, now it’s basically people that grab it to go note you need to bring cash. This place does not accept any kind of plastic. It is cash only. The prices are an appropriate price point. The flavors are fresh and delicious even at the option today that they had some leftover steamed barbecue buns that I could take home and steam myself there they were cold but totally worth it. The atmosphere is rundown although you’re gonna grab this to go. the staff are nice and friendly, but definitely in a hurry even on a Friday at 11:30 there was a line about 6 to 8 people deep so you Be patient in parking in this retail strip mall can get very busy although there is a two or three story parking garages next-door. I highly recommend this place and look forward to coming back .
I love this old school Asian bakery. The price is right, the flavor is on point, and the pastries are light and fluffy. I usually order the bbq, curry, and pineapple custard baos. They run out fast and you need to call and order ahead of time. Cash only!
This bakery is amazing!!! Reminds me of the mom and pop bakeries that you would find at corners in small towns. 100% the best egg tarts and pineapple custard buns in Houston, possibly Texas. The only other place I have had this good quality of Chinese pastries was in San Francisco China Town. Took me forever to find a good place is Houston. Skip all the other trendy bakeries and come check this one out. It's cash only, so bring cash. Pastries go fast, so don't be surprised if they are out when you get their.
