Manga is a particular draw. Reviews describe an extensive manga section, with additional manga and figurines upstairs, giving fans more to browse beyond the main floor. Visitors also mention merchandise connected to specific series, including Alien Stage, as well as comics and books they had long hoped to find. Some shoppers have discovered limited-edition books during a visit, though availability can vary. For readers who enjoy browsing shelves rather than shopping from a short list, the range gives a visit room to unfold at an unhurried pace.
The stationery selection is another standout in customer feedback. Japanese stationery, pens, and art supplies appeal to people working on scrapbooks, creative projects, or everyday writing, while the store’s assortment also includes magazines, puzzles, and toys. Shoppers mention figurines, blind boxes, and 1/32-scale JDM models among the more unusual items. The combination makes Kinokuniya a good fit for manga and comic readers, stationery enthusiasts, gift seekers, and collectors looking for something beyond a standard bookshop selection.
The atmosphere is described as clean, friendly, and full of things to notice, with merchandise spread across different sections and upstairs. That abundance is part of the appeal for visitors who like to browse and spend time discovering new books or Japanese goods. One practical consideration raised by reviewers is price: some find items expensive, while others feel the selection makes the visit worthwhile. Families may want to keep an eye on young children while browsing, since products are displayed throughout the shop. Customer reviews average 4.7 out of 5 from 1,132 reviews.

Amazing variety of things! They have a large section for manga, a section for stationary, a section for blind boxes, and they have more manga and figurines in the upstairs area. I personally really love Alien Stage and they had a good variety of merch from that series (more than the Beaverton chain). The thing that I bought was kind of expensive for what it was (and it was cheaper at the Beaverton chain), but the other things being sold were a lot less expensive. I like the blind boxes, but I would definitely like to see more individually sold products.
This store had a great variety of merchandise from toys, puzzles, stationery, books and everything in between. However, the prices were very high! I stopped by Sept 2 from Arizona. I specifically came for stationary items for my scrapbooks …
Very clean and well organized. I got some books I have always wanted to have. And they were limited edition! I got extras as well. I was so excited when I saw them on my way here to Portland to visit! They have amazing art supplies and unique items from Japan.
The perfect place to get lost in and spend time perusing stationary and manga. There is lots to see! Make sure to keep an eye on little ones as there are items everywhere. The manga section is extensive; the Japanese stationary is unique.
A very good selection of comics, books, pens and magazines along with so much more. Friendly staff. Prices are up there but the selection is worth it. Also some great 1/32 scale JDM models.
