What customers mention again and again is the drink menu, especially the banana matcha latte and taro latte. The matcha here gets a lot of love for its flavor and quality, with several guests calling it some of the best they have had in the area. The banana matcha, in particular, has become a signature order at Lagu Cafe, offering a combination that feels a little different from the usual coffee shop routine. Guests also note the organic coffee, which adds to the appeal for people in Irvine who want a cafe experience that feels a bit more intentional. If you enjoy trying drinks beyond the standard latte lineup, this spot offers something distinctive without feeling overcomplicated.
Food is another reason people return. Reviews highlight the sandwiches for their soft bread, fresh ingredients, and balanced flavors. The smoked salmon sandwich gets a specific mention, and rice balls such as pork belly and salmon are also part of what gives the menu a little more personality than a typical grab-and-go cafe. Rather than trying to do everything, Lagu Cafe seems to focus on a smaller range of items that pair well with its drinks, making it a practical choice for breakfast, an early lunch, or a light meal during the workday in Irvine, California.
The atmosphere is best described as cozy and compact. Several visitors point out that the shop is small, so it may not be the ideal place for long study sessions or hours on a laptop. Instead, it works well for people who want a quick coffee run, a casual catch-up, or a peaceful solo stop in the morning or early afternoon. Some customers also notice a Japanese-inspired feel, which adds a bit of character to the space without overpowering the cafe’s everyday comfort.
For anyone searching for a reliable cafe in Irvine, CA, Lagu Cafe is especially worth knowing for its banana matcha latte, taro latte, organic coffee, and well-liked sandwiches. Its weekday schedule makes it particularly convenient for nearby workers, residents, and anyone passing through the area Tuesday through Friday. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hands down my favorite coffee spot! The banana matcha latte is next level – such a unique and delicious combo. Their taro latte is equally amazing, creamy and not too sweet. Sandwiches are fantastic too, fresh and packed with flavor. Yes, they're closed on Mondays, but that just makes the other five days feel extra special. A total treat every time I visit. Highly recommend!
The bread on the sandwich was delicious and very soft. I liked the smoked salmon sandwich. The pork belly rice ball was pretty good. Salmon rice ball was not… the salmon wasn’t really salmon. It had the consistency of ground up salmon. Overall pretty decent spot.
Great banana matcha, but it’s not real banana, it’s the artificial-type pudding. Still delicious though. Good matcha quality. This is not a good place to study. The shop is very small.
I was in the area early in the morning and noticed a line outside the café. What caught my attention was that this café has a Japanese theme. What made it even better was that they serve organic coffee, which is hard to find these days, especially with the neighboring Starbucks taking most of the business. When I arrived, it was bustling. I decided to make a special stop at Lugu Café and ordered a detox breakfast meal before my massage appointment next door. The bread was incredibly tender and had an Asian flavor to it—you know what I mean if you’re familiar with Asian bakeries like I am. The mocha latte was not overly sweet and was beautifully crafted with the perfect balance of flavors. The cashier and barista were super friendly and kind. Most of the customers came and went without sitting down, as there are only two tables inside. Luckily, I managed to grab a seat and enjoy my breakfast there. The interior of the café also had a Japanese flair, which added to the authentic ambiance and truly reflected the culture the café represents. I highly recommend Lugu Café to both locals and visitors. I’ll definitely return!
