Mae Ting's Coconut Cakes is a beloved Thai restaurant stop in Los Angeles, CA, tucked along N Main Street and known for a focused menu that keeps people coming back on weekends. With a 4.6 rating from dozens of reviews, this casual spot has built a strong local reputation for Thai-style coconut cakes made fresh to order. It is the kind of place many people discover through word of mouth, then return to when they want something comforting, flavorful, and a little different from the usual restaurant experience in Los Angeles. Because the business is open only on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, visiting can feel a bit like finding a weekend-only favorite.
What stands out most at Mae Ting's Coconut Cakes is the coconut cakes themselves. Guests frequently mention the regular version, the green onion coconut cakes, and the mango sticky rice coconut cakes. Reviews describe them as sweet, creamy, chewy, and flavorful, with a balance that is not overly sugary. One of the biggest draws is that the cakes are often prepared right in front of customers, adding a fresh, made-to-order feel that many diners appreciate. Some visitors note a wait of around 10 to 20 minutes, especially earlier in the day or when the stand has just opened, but for many people that freshness is part of the appeal.
The setting feels informal and approachable, more hole-in-the-wall than polished dining room, which is part of its charm. Reviewers describe a small cluster of Thai food stands in the area, creating a lively food-market atmosphere rather than a traditional sit-down restaurant. In addition to the coconut cakes, customers have mentioned BBQ skewers, grilled meats, tom yum noodles, fried foods, sticky rice, Thai desserts, and fried fish balls available nearby or at the same stand setup. That makes this a good stop for people who like to sample a few different items, whether they are visiting solo, meeting friends, or exploring local Asian food spots around Los Angeles.
For locals and visitors searching for Thai desserts or casual Thai street-food flavors in Los Angeles, California, Mae Ting's Coconut Cakes offers a specific experience: simple, weekend-only, and centered on specialty coconut cakes that regulars genuinely seek out. Reviews also mention practical details that can help first-time visitors, including free parking nearby and payment policies that may include cash and Zelle. If you enjoy fresh-made sweets, market-style eating, and small businesses with a neighborhood following, this spot is well worth keeping in mind for a Saturday or Sunday food run in Los Angeles, CA.

Sign in to reviewWe came on a Sunday, it is somewhat busy. The location has a few small Thai stands. We ordered the mango sticky rice coconut cakes and green onion coconut cakes. They are $10 ( each has around 8 pieces ). The coconut cakes are sweet , creamy and flavorful, they made it right in front of you so they come out warm. The mango is sweet and not sour so we are satisfied. Remember to bring cash cause they accept cash & zelle. After they take your order, they give you a ticket and they make your food. You just need to bring that ticket to get your food. The wait is around 25 minutes for the food, and there are 3 long tables next to the stand so you can eat there. We walk around the Thai grocery store across the coconut cake stand when waiting for food. It is a nice place to experience some Thai coconut cakes! Would recommend this place.
It says cash only, but they do accept Zelle payments! Super hole in the wall place with delicious coconut cakes, I've tried the regular ones and the mango sticky rice ones and they're so yummy! They have other types and there's BBQ skewers as well, though I haven't tried them.
I’ve been here a few times and it never disappoints! The coconut cakes are chewy and not too sweet. Usually takes them 10-20 minutes to make them for you. Also in the same stand, there’s a BBQ stand with really tasty grilled meats, and a stand that sells tom yum noodles, fried foods, and thai desserts. Make sure you go to an ATM before coming because they’re cash only. They’re only open on weekends.
I was there around 9:05 but the lady said that the cake would be ready in 25 minutes cos they just opened. Okay, so I waited. Then I got the cakes, but it doesn’t taste as delicious as I thought. I feel a little bit disappointed ☹️
Mai’s Coconut Cakes is a few tents on the side of the Thai supermarket. They have a free parking lot that was pretty empty when we went around Sunday noon. It’s cash only and they serve amazing Thai bbq, fried coconut cakes, fried fish balls, sticky rice, and more. We ordered the the bbq pork and chicken, coconut cakes, and fried yellowtail, which was deep fried fish paste. All of it was very tasty and the portions were sizable, good for two or three people. Their hours are very specific so double check before you go. They also had a cat chillin around.
