Mai Phụng Restaurant is a Vietnamese restaurant in Westminster, CA, located at 8415 Westminster Blvd., Westminster, CA 92683. For diners searching for Vietnamese comfort food in Orange County, this small local spot stands out for its focused menu, home-style feel, and steady neighborhood following. With a 4.3 rating from 220 reviews, it is a place many people visit specifically for its well-known bánh canh cua, the Vietnamese crab noodle soup that appears again and again in customer feedback. The restaurant keeps limited daytime hours, open Monday through Thursday from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, closed Friday, and open again Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, so planning ahead is helpful.
What many guests remember first about Mai Phụng Restaurant is the food itself, especially the rich, thick broth of the bánh canh cua. Reviews describe the soup as flavorful and generous with crab, making it a clear signature dish for anyone wanting a classic Vietnamese noodle soup beyond pho. Another item that gets strong praise is the egg rolls, which some diners call a must-order alongside the noodles. The house special fried rice also receives enthusiastic mentions, with guests describing it as delicious and cooked to order. If you are exploring Vietnamese restaurants in Westminster and want a place known for crab noodle soup and satisfying rice dishes, this restaurant offers a straightforward menu with memorable favorites.
The atmosphere at Mai Phụng Restaurant is best described as small, casual, and mom-and-pop. Several reviews note that the dining room is compact, with only a handful of tables, which gives the restaurant a more personal and traditional feel. Some guests compare it to the kinds of smaller eateries found in Vietnam, where the focus is less on space and more on the food coming out of the kitchen. Because of that size, lunch crowds can lead to a wait, especially for groups or weekend visits. Reviewers mention that the staff may take your order while you are still in line, helping food arrive shortly after you sit down. That practical system is useful in a restaurant where seating turns over quickly during busy periods.
For local diners, families, and small groups who do not mind a wait for a popular dish, Mai Phụng Restaurant can be a rewarding stop in Westminster, California. It may be especially appealing to people who enjoy seeking out family-run Vietnamese restaurants with a loyal following rather than large, highly polished dining rooms. At the same time, it is smart to set expectations: parking in the plaza can feel tight, seating is limited, and the short hours mean this is primarily a lunch destination. Guests coming with a larger party should expect that timing may matter, since one review from a group of ten mentioned about a 30-minute wait.
Overall, Mai Phụng Restaurant offers a clear local identity: a modest Vietnamese restaurant in Westminster known above all for bánh canh cua, plus favorites like egg rolls and house special fried rice. The experience is simple and food-focused, with made-to-order dishes, a small dining room, and a schedule centered on midday service. For anyone asking where to find Vietnamese crab noodle soup in Westminster, CA, this restaurant is an easy name to remember. It suits diners who value authentic, neighborhood-style cooking, do not need a large dining space, and are happy to visit during its 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM service window on most days of the week.

Sign in to reviewHad a group of 10 and waited about 30 minutes or so. It's a super small place. They will also take your order while you're in line so you can get it a few minutes after you sit down. Broth was real flavorful with the crab and thick broth consistency. I'd def go back. Must also get the egg rolls. Be aware of the hot sauce. It's super spicy
Delicious food cooked to order. We especially enjoy the house special fried rice. Absolutely delectable. We'll be back!
We came to Mai Phung to try the dish which is known as the best Banh Canh Cua in OC, and it did not disappoint. We arrived during lunch time and there was already a long line in front of the restaurant. The restaurant is quite small just like restaurants in Vietnam with not many tables so wait time was a bit long. You would better plan ahead of time if you want to try this out. We made the order outside while waiting and once the table is ready, they bring the food out for you. We tried both the original Banh Canh Cua and the clear broth version that I hadn’t heard of before. Both have their own unique taste. The portion and flavor were decent and really close to what I remember in Vietnam. However, I still feel like it’s not there yet. In overall, Mai Phung is a great place if you want to try out the infamous Banh Canh Cua from Vietnam. I’d still want to come back again next time if I have a chance to visit OC. I personally think this place could use a little refresh with a cleaner surroundings and upgraded tables and chairs to make it shine brighter.
This is a small mom and pop restaurant. About 6 table tops. They'll take your order outside while you're waiting if there's a line. Short hours, 11am-3pm. The banh canh was OK. Lots of crab on top but the soup was a bit under flavored compared to the one we had in Vegas. Waited for about 45 minutes to get seated and food came out about 5 min after sitting down since they took the order outside. Overall not bad but I'd travel back to Vegas for the other one. Egg rolls were delicious though!
I am in love with these small mom and pop shops around OC and need to start dining more at this places. Parking in this plaza is a little tight and inside is small too. There are 23 food items on the menu. We got the crab noodle soup (#1) and fried rice (#23). Bánh canh tôm cua had a thick broth with udon like noodles. So yummy. Squeeze a few lemons and it’s perfect. I was surprised how much I liked the fried rice. It had that crispy rice burn from the wok. We will be back to try more dishes.
