The grocery selection is a major part of the appeal. Customer reviews mention Japanese ramen, candies, desserts, drinks, specialty vegetables, utensils, and arts, alongside a broad assortment of other grocery items. The selection makes Maido useful for shoppers who want to stock up on Japanese ingredients or browse for something new, including visitors who do not have a Japanese market nearby. Because the shop is described as packed with products, it can feel more like a treasure chest than a wide, open supermarket; take your time looking through the shelves, and ask staff if you need help locating a particular item.
Reviews also describe a restaurant side serving Japanese food, so a visit can include a meal as well as grocery shopping. Customer favorites mentioned include onigiri, rice wrapped in seaweed; okonomiyaki, a savory Japanese dish one reviewer compared to “Japanese pizza”; and yakisoba, fried noodles. Shoppers also mention finding prepared food and enjoying lunch on site. These details make Maido a convenient choice for people who want to sample Japanese dishes, pick up groceries, or combine both in one visit. As with any restaurant, opinions about particular dishes differ, so it is sensible to check what is currently available when you arrive.
Maido! A Marketplace of Japan may suit local residents looking for Japanese groceries, families browsing for snacks and desserts, and curious visitors exploring Ardmore. One reviewer even described making a long drive after hearing about the store, while others return for favorite items such as onigiri and for the mix of food and merchandise. The compact, eclectic setting is part of the experience: expect plenty to browse rather than a minimal, carefully spaced display. If you are planning a trip, the address is 5 E Lancaster Ave, Ardmore, PA 19003. Business hours are not provided here, so confirm them before setting out. The Katsu Don was one of the worst I’ve had. The pork was so tough that it was difficult to chew, and it tasted like a pre-made cutlet that had simply been reheated rather than freshly prepared. For a place serving Japanese food, this was frankly embarrassing. The Yakisoba was no better—overwhelmingly salty to the point that it was hard to enjoy more than a few bites. I cannot recommend the restaurant portion of this business to anyone. Save your money and your appetite. The only reason to visit is the grocery section. Skip the restaurant entirely and just shop for Japanese groceries. Not even worth a 0.5 star!

Wow! What a find in Ardmore! I've meant to stop in every time we've been in town. It's a treasure chest of Japanese food, utensils and arts - all stuffed into a shop as packed as a treasure chest. I did get talked out of buying a Godzilla T-shirt. Hopefully, they'll still have some available on my next visit.
I love going to Maido! I always get as many onigiri (rice calls wrapped in seaweed) as I can! Then I enjoy an amazing lunch at the restaurant side - usually okonomiyaki (my mom called it "Japanese pizza"!) or yakisoba (fried noodles). The …
