Marina Grocery is a neighborhood grocery store in Union City, CA, located at 1791 Decoto Rd, Union City, CA 94587. For shoppers looking for an Asian market in the East Bay, it is a practical stop for everyday groceries, specialty ingredients, and fresh items that are not always easy to find at standard supermarkets. With a 4.0 rating from more than 600 customer reviews, the store has built a steady local presence for families, home cooks, and anyone planning meals around Chinese and broader Asian pantry staples.
Customers often point to the selection as the main reason to visit Marina Grocery. Reviewers mention live seafood, including fish, crab, and shrimp, along with black chickens often used for nourishing soups. The produce area is also a draw, with fresh vegetables such as yam leaves and different kinds of bok choy noted by shoppers. Customers also mention jackfruit and a food section that can be useful for convenient meal planning. Frozen dim sum items, buns, and other prepared foods may be available, though shoppers may want to check dates and freshness carefully because experiences with packaged and frozen items have been mixed.
The atmosphere is straightforward and local rather than polished. Some visitors describe the store as spacious, easy to find from local traffic, and usually not too crowded, with ample parking that makes quick shopping easier. Others note that parts of the market feel older, and a few reviews mention inconsistent service, damaged fruit, or shelves that have at times looked understocked. That context matters: Marina Grocery works best for shoppers who value variety, live seafood, specialty vegetables, and familiar Asian grocery brands, and who are comfortable choosing their items carefully in person.
For residents of Union City, California, as well as nearby Fremont, Newark, and Hayward, Marina Grocery can be a convenient weekly stop for soup ingredients, seafood dinners, stir-fry vegetables, fruit, and pantry basics. It is especially useful for customers who cook traditional Chinese or Asian home meals and want to see the seafood tanks, compare produce, or pick up several ingredients in one trip. The store is not positioned as a luxury market; its appeal is in access, selection, and the familiar rhythm of a busy neighborhood grocery.
Hours are generous for a local grocery store: 8:30 AM to 9:00 PM Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM Friday through Sunday. If you are comparing Asian grocery options in Union City, CA and the surrounding East Bay, Marina Grocery is worth considering for practical shopping, fresh seafood choices, Asian vegetables, and a location that is easy to work into weekday or weekend errands.

Sign in to reviewThis is the best quality Chinese grocery store in Fremont proper, so I go here a lot. Good place to get black chickens for chicken soup, as well as live seafood. There's also an assortment of fresh vegetables like bags of yam leaves, types of bok chois, etc on the far wall are regularly stocked, so that I can get large bags of fresh vegetables for $2. Aisles also contain many medicinal ingredients, but on the same block you can find the best Chinese pharmacy in Fremont with the most fresh ingredients around, including chicken soup ingredients. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Large array of sauces, alchoholic beverages, frozen organs and meats, etc. You can also get a variety of imported fruits, though I don't usually buy fruit here. The pears are excellent quality. The bagged longan must be eaten immediately when they come in stock. For easily obtainable fruit, meat, fresh cut sushi, or fresh cut Korean meats, you can go elsewhere, unless you prioritize price.
Update Aug 1st: store is fully restocked and store looks busier. Some signs say hashi market but the rest of the store is still Marina supermarket. Prices seem a little lower. ‐---------‐--------------- The store is emptying out, and many shelves are empty. They're either closing for good or changing ownership. Keep this in mind.
I rarely leave reviews, but this is unacceptable and needs to be addressed immediately. I purchased several dim sum items (including shumai and buns) only to find them covered in mold. Even the items that weren't visibly moldy tasted extremely stale, as if they had been sitting in the freezer for years—nothing like the fresh quality you'd expect. This is a gross violation of food safety standards. I am putting the management on notice: improve your quality control immediately. If I encounter this again, I will not hesitate to file a formal complaint with the FDA and local health department for a full investigation. Consider this your final warning.
Not bad tbh but um the reason why i would rate only 3 stars it because 1. Its pretty big and lots of asian stuff such as food obviously and 2. It is more like a asian grocery store compared to 99 ranch if you don't know and 3. not too crowded. but its kinda old and should be replaced such as rusty walls (suggestion) and better cleaning and the fruits/veggies aint too fresh but they are still edible and not too expensive. Overall, ehhhh not too bad not too good so mid lol
First of all the service is not good. Some of the fruits are damaged. The food section is good. It has ample parking. I usually buy the jack fruit. To cut the whole jackfruit into pieces it take nearly 15 min. Its bery easy to find from the local traffic.it has a lot of live fish and crab . The shrimp 🍤 has lot variety. If you take the whole fish if you need they can fry it for you. The meat 🥩 section looks need. The fruit 🍉 also has lot of varity. The guy who maintains the fruit and vegetables needs more care.
