Sign in to reviewWarning: I left this $75 deep tissue massage appointment in more pain than when I arrived and felt repeatedly body-shamed by the therapist. I had one of the worst deep tissue massage experiences I’ve ever had. I booked a deep tissue massage with back walking, something I’ve had many times before at other massage therapy clinics, and it’s usually very helpful for muscle tension. From the start, the massage therapist (Lisa) was extremely unprofessional. She spoke very little English, which normally wouldn’t bother me, but the English she did use was rude and body-shaming. Throughout the massage she repeatedly commented that I was “too soft” and “too pink.” I’m a white woman—skin turning pink during a deep tissue massage is completely normal. The actual massage therapy service itself was very poorly done. I went in with pain in the middle of my back along the paraspinal muscles, and she never even worked on that area. Instead she kept pressing hard on bones and sensitive areas, even after I told her it hurt. At one point I physically moved her hands to the muscle area near the base of my skull and said “muscle good, bones bad,” but she continued pressing hard on the bone. When she did the back-walking massage, it was also done incorrectly. Instead of working on the middle back muscles between the shoulder blades or the hamstrings, she was walking on my ribs and the outside of my thighs. At one point her toenail dug into my skin, which was painful and extremely uncomfortable. Another issue was privacy and professionalism during the massage. She pulled my thong down well past my butt cheeks and massaged my glutes for an extended period of time in a fully lit massage room, which made me very uncomfortable. I’ve had many professional massages before and this was not handled in a respectful or professional way. Throughout the session she kept making comments about my body and even asked my age, saying “I probably your mom.” The entire experience felt unprofessional, disrespectful, and uncomfortable. For reference, I’m 5’5” and 130 lbs and have had many deep tissue and sports massages before. I was prepared to tip $20–$30 on top of the $75 massage, because I know how much work goes into a good massage therapist’s job. Unfortunately this massage service left me with more pain and a headache than when I arrived. About 30 minutes after I left, her husband texted apologizing for her behavior and said he would refund the massage since the payment was still pending. Even with the apology, I feel it’s important to leave this review so others searching for deep tissue massage or professional massage therapy know what to expect. No one should leave a massage appointment feeling insulted, uncomfortable, and in more pain than when they arrived. I will not be returning.
The massage itself was fine, but then there was the acupuncture, which I really didn’t like and was surprised to receive. I couldn’t focus on enjoying the massage because I was just waiting for the next prick of the needle. She also maneuvers you while you have needles in your body, which definitely unlocked a new fear for me. They also try to strong-arm you for a tip by waiting at the door. I don’t have an issue with tipping—I have an issue with being forcefully pressured into tipping. Because of that, I probably won’t be coming back.
I have seen MULTIPLE massage therapists over the years, and NONE have compared to Lisa!! I highly recommend booking the Chinese medicine pain relief treatment - 90 minutes if you can! 12/10 I will never go to anyone else again, she is amaaaaaazing!
I went here for one hour massage with Lisa, ( Groupon deal) she is great at what she does, felt really relaxed and invigorated at the end of the session, place is clean and very inviting and would like to be back. There was an extra charge of $10 because I used it over the weekend which I did not mind, plus the tip so bring some change. Overall a very nice place and will go back! The language barrier was no problem as some people has stated here in the reviews, I was not there to talk, so did not have a problem with that at all, quiet time is a big plus for me when having a massage. The ambience music was soft and relaxing.
I’ve been coming to see Lisa for over a year now and my range of motion and chronic pain issues are so much more manageable. I recommend her to everyone! Though I will caution.. if deep pressure is too much for you, don’t go see her. If you’re like me and need deep pressure to actually get anything to release, Lisa is the person to go to.
