Matcha Cafe Maiko is a cafe at 923 Race St in Philadelphia, PA, in the city’s Chinatown area. It’s a convenient stop for matcha drinks and frozen desserts when you’re exploring nearby, meeting a friend, or looking for an afternoon treat. The shop’s hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. With a 4.7 rating from 356 reviews, it has drawn a substantial number of local and visiting customers, though individual opinions on flavor can differ.

Matcha is the central draw, with options that include matcha drinks, iced matcha lattes, and matcha soft serve. Customers also mention strawberry matcha sundaes, matcha shaved ice, and combinations with other flavors. Reviews describe seasonal ice cream flavors that may change over time, so the selection can offer something different on another visit. Strawberry, ube, and Earl Grey appear in customer accounts of soft-serve twists and pairings. For a refreshing dessert, matcha shaved ice with chewy mochi is one order a reviewer particularly enjoyed, praising its generous portion on a hot day.

The customer experience sounds friendly and quick for many visitors. Reviewers mention welcoming staff and efficient service, while also noting that the shop is small, has limited seating, and can become crowded. That makes Matcha Cafe Maiko a practical choice for a casual dessert stop, a takeaway drink, or a brief visit with a friend; it may be less suitable if you want a spacious place to linger. The compact setting and Chinatown location make it easy to include as one stop during time in the neighborhood.

Taste is personal, and the reviews reflect that. Several customers praise the matcha and desserts, while others find the matcha too grassy, grainy, or bitter, or feel that the drinks do not stand out from those at other cafes. If you enjoy a pronounced, earthy matcha flavor, that style may appeal to you; if you prefer a smoother or milder drink, consider that feedback when choosing. Matcha Cafe Maiko offers a focused menu of matcha-based drinks and desserts, with soft serve, shaved ice, and changing flavors among the options people return for. Check the current offerings in person, especially if you are visiting for a particular seasonal flavor.

The staff here are always so friendly! I usually get the soft serve or strawberry matcha sundae, but today I tried the matcha shaved ice for the first time. The portion was very generous, and it was so refreshing and delicious on a hot day. The mochi was perfectly chewy too. I was just sad that I dropped one of the two pieces on the floor! 😭

Probably the worst Matcha Maiko I've been to in the states *which is not the fault of any of the workers*. The matcha quality here is questionable? It was incredibly grassy, grainy, and bitter. I ordered the iced matcha latte w oat milk, …

Best Matcha and dessert I’ve ever had in Chinatown!!! They seem to have seasonal ice cream that changes from time to time but they’re all so delicious? Their matcha is also very tasty and I always end up coming here whenever I’m around the area by myself or with friends(Shown by the different photos. They’re one month apart). The staff is super friendly and the interior is also very clean and casual which is perfect for a small cafe!

We got the BOGO half off soft serve deal with matcha/ube twist and strawberry/earl grey twist. I enjoyed the ube flavor more than the matcha. Service was quick! It is a small establishment with limited seating and can get crowded quickly.

Came over to grab some matcha afternoon drinks. Not impressed. Not saying they are not good, just nothing stands out. Drinks: matcha drinks mixed with different flavors, and yogurt? ice cream? mix options. Which you can get it from many other shops as well. Their flavor or taste does not stand out. Atmosphere: tiny shop, narrow, and easily gets packed with people if customers just stand there in line. We were not comfortable while enjoying our treat inside; it might be better just to order and go. Service: 2 young ladies were working there during our visit. no greetings, no smile, did not feel welcomed, I am sure they can do better than that. Price: moderate, comparable to other similar drinks in the area. Personally, I prefer a matcha shop where I can comfortably sit down and enjoy my orders, so… on this note, I probably won’t return to this particular shop.
