Much like 99 Ranch or H-Mart for Chinese and Korean ingredients, respectively, Mitsuwa carries Japanese products that are hard or impossible to find elsewhere. Their produce and meat is excellent. They have fresh wasabi - real wasabi - from time to time. Meat sliced thin for shabu shabu. Pre-packaged bento and onigiri. They must have 100 soy sauces and should varieties. 20 kinds of bonito, 10 kinds of kombu, 30 brands of instant dashi. It's just depth and variety that is such a pleasure to browse. They also have tons of packaged goods, from snacks, candies, ramen, and drinks - if you're not into cooking. Every time I find myself at Mitsuwa, it's a treat.
The entire staff is very friendly and helpful. I went in with a shopping list from my boss. Zedric was kind enough to walk me through the entire list: offering to check in the back for items not on the shelf, and going above and beyond to suggest alternatives if specific items weren't available. Huge thanks to this wonderful employee and the entire team! Made my boss very happy (:
Mitsuwa is a wonderful international Japanese grocery store where you can find authentic items straight from Japan. While I haven’t had the chance to visit Japan yet, this store is as close as I can get for now. I came specifically looking for some instant miso soup packets, and even though I accidentally picked the wrong ones, the staff was incredibly helpful in explaining the differences and assisting me with the exchange. They also have a small produce section, along with a variety of meats like chicken, beef, fish, and more. I took some time to explore their ready-to-go meals, which include sushi, poke, bento boxes, and so much more. This was my first visit, and I’m excited to dive into all the new goodies I brought home!
Hidden gem in Northridge! Great selection of Japanese grocery items. Their pre-packed food section is amazing! So much to choose from. There's poke bowls, salmon bowls, nigiri sushi combinations. All are so good, fresh and very reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
I visited this store for the first time a few weeks ago. I thought it was a niche spot, but it piqued my interest. When I went back last week, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that their hot meals and sushi were discounted after 6:30 p.m. It was such a treat after work, quick, satisfying, and affordable, that I couldn’t stop raving about it to everyone. Today, I went again at the same time, expecting the same deal, but to my surprise, everything was regular price. Did I miss something? Why the inconsistency? I still picked up a few items, but the experience left a bit of a sour taste.
