Mitsuwa Marketplace is a well-known Japanese-style Asian grocery store that has brought its authentic flavors and specialty products to Cypress, California. Officially opened in early November 2025, this location represents one of the newest additions to the Mitsuwa family, giving residents in the Cypress and surrounding Orange County area a convenient option that previously required longer drives to the Costa Mesa or Torrance locations. Situated in a bustling retail corridor next to other popular shopping destinations, it's easy to pair a trip to Mitsuwa with other errands in the area.
Inside, shoppers will find a carefully curated selection of Japanese groceries, fresh produce, snacks, beverages, and household items imported directly from Japan. One of the highlights for many visitors is the on-site food court, which features well-loved options like Santouka Ramen for those craving a warm, comforting bowl of authentic Japanese noodle soup. The food court also offers tempura, sushi, mochi desserts, and matcha soft serve ice cream. The sushi, in particular, has drawn praise from customers for its beautiful presentation, with each piece carefully arranged and visually appealing enough to impress even before the first bite.
It's worth noting that this Cypress location is more compact than the flagship Costa Mesa store. Some customers have observed that the market floor and food court seating area are smaller, which can make navigating the aisles feel a bit tight during busier times. Finding a table in the food court on weekends may require a little patience. That said, the smaller footprint keeps the shopping experience focused and manageable, especially for those making a quick stop for specific ingredients or a casual meal.
Mitsuwa Marketplace in Cypress is a solid choice for anyone who appreciates Japanese food culture and wants access to specialty products without the longer commute to larger Mitsuwa stores. Whether you're stocking up on pantry staples, searching for hard-to-find Japanese snacks, or simply looking for a satisfying ramen lunch, this location delivers on both quality and convenience. It's also a pleasant spot to browse and explore if you enjoy discovering new flavors and products at a relaxed pace.
The store operates seven days a week from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, making it accessible for both early shoppers and evening visitors. With a current rating of 3.8 stars based on over 180 reviews, Mitsuwa Marketplace Cypress continues to grow its local presence and earn its place as a valued addition to the community's grocery landscape.

Sign in to reviewThey didn't discount food that is near expiration date like Hmart or 99 Ranch by 50% off. I paid full price for a food that is sold by today. Was nice looking around to kill some time. Food court have ramen tempura sushi mochi and matcha soft serve ice cream.
The presentation of this sushi box, designed for the on-the-go diner, was truly a visual triumph. The delicate placement of each piece, the vibrant contrast of ruby-red tuna against glistening white rice, and the meticulous garnishes promised an experience of culinary artistry. It was, simply put, a feast for the eyes and the anticipation was high. However, upon opening the container, that delightful anticipation was sharply curtailed by a pervasive and rather concerning pungent aroma. Instead of the subtle, clean scent of the sea that defines true freshness, the air was filled with a strong, distracting fishy odor—a telltale sign of trimethylamine that immediately raised doubts about the quality and handling of the product. Regrettably, the palate confirmed the nose's findings. The taste profile diverged dramatically from the high standards set by other Japanese establishments. The texture lacked the signature shari (rice) perfection and the flavor of the fish itself was muddled and unpleasantly "off," failing to deliver the pure, clean taste expected of quality sushi. While the aesthetics earned full marks, the fundamentals of flavor and freshness were disappointingly compromised, resulting in an experience that was unsettlingly different from the standard of authentic Japanese cuisine.
I had high expectations because I went to the one in Costa Mesa a few days prior and was in awe. I came to this location on Christmas Day and I don’t think I’ll be coming back. It wasn’t crowded when I went but the food court is small and the market was even smaller. It’s really tight to get around with a cart. I’m glad I went during Christmas Day because I can’t imagine how busy it gets on regular days.
This is one of the newest Mitsuwa Marketplace. This grocery store is not as big as the one in Costa Mesa and looking for a table to dine in is a little tricky especially on the weekends. We tried the Santouka Ramen here and it did not disappoint.
Mitsuwa Marketplace officially opened in Cypress in early November 2025, finally a Japanese supermarket close to me! I used to drive all the way to Costa Mesa or Torrance, so having a new one nearby was too tempting not to check out. This location is definitely in a retail war zone, right next to Trader Joe’s, with Costco just a few steps away. Compared to those giants, this Mitsuwa is definitely a mini version. It’s also right beside 24 Hour Fitness, and the parking lot in front is shared with the gym. Parking experience wasn’t great because I only got a spot by luck when I turned in from the Tesla chargers on the side. Once we walked in, the food court and dining area are immediately on the right. Of course, the most popular spot is Santouka Ramen 🍜, and on the left you’ll find gift shops like ROYCE, Hattendo, and Yamari Matcha. Since I’ve already tried Santouka before, I went for Tokyo Shokudo, the tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet) place next door this time. The only complaint was the food samples on display look way bigger than what we actually got 😂 But at least it was tasty enough to forgive that. One thing everyone mentioned online regarding the flies in the food court — unfortunately it was true 🪰🪰🪰. They were buzzing around the tables and it got pretty annoying. As for the market itself, it’s tiny and the shelves were already half empty with no restock in sight around 2pm during a middle of the weekday. Meat packs are mostly small and the price range is average. Overall, the variety and “fun to browse” factor are nowhere near H Mart or Costco in my opinion but definitely good enough for a quick grocery shopping. Would I come back? Probably yes mainly to grab ROYCE chocolates as gifts but for real grocery shopping, I’ll still stick to H Mart, Costco, Shun Fat and T&K Supermarket in Westminster especially for Asian stuff. 📍 Mitsuwa Marketplace 4955 Katella Ave, Cypress, CA 90720
