Whether you are a seasoned fan of Japanese cuisine or just beginning to explore the art of sushi, Momoyama offers a welcoming doorway into the world of chef-curated dining.

The heart of Momoyama's menu is its omakase, a chef's choice dining format where each course is thoughtfully selected to showcase the freshest seasonal seafood. During lunch hours, available Tuesday through Sunday from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM, guests can enjoy a remarkable lunch omakase deal starting at around $59, which typically includes seven pieces of nigiri alongside seven small dishes, or a fourteen-piece option for approximately $65. Reviewers frequently highlight the freshness of the fish, particularly the white fish selections, and the careful balance of flavors in each piece. For those seeking a deeper experience, guests also mention a dinner omakase of around nineteen courses at a higher price point, available by reservation only.

What sets Momoyama apart is not just the food but the atmosphere and hospitality. Customers describe the space as intimate and elegant without ever feeling pretentious, making it an ideal setting for a birthday celebration, a special date night, or simply a meal with friends who appreciate fine Japanese cuisine. The chefs, including Robert and Eddie, are praised for their grace and artistry, bringing a personal touch to every course they prepare. The rice on the nigiri leans slightly sweet, a deliberate choice that complements the clean flavors of the seafood, and the overall presentation reflects a deep respect for Japanese culinary tradition.

Momoyama is particularly well-suited for diners who want a high-quality omakase experience without the steep price tag commonly associated with this style of dining in Southern California. It appeals to food enthusiasts, couples celebrating milestones, and anyone curious about the omakase format but hesitant to commit to the cost of a Michelin-level restaurant. The restaurant is closed on Mondays, so plan your visit for Tuesday through Sunday to enjoy their lunch service.

Located in the 92708 zip code of Fountain Valley, Momoyama 桃山 sits along a busy stretch of Brookhurst Street surrounded by a vibrant community. If you have been searching for an approachable yet genuinely elevated sushi experience in Orange County, this is a destination worth putting on your list. Very good lunch omakase deal ($59). We got 7 nigiri and 7 small dishes. We had mostly white fish but they were very fresh. If you're looking for omakase experience without breaking your wallet I recommend checking Momoyama out.

5/5 -- An Unforgettable Omakase Experience We came in to celebrate my wife's bday and from the moment we walked in, I knew this omakase dinner would be something special. The atmosphere was intimate and elegant without feeling pretentious -- perfect for savoring every moment. Chefs Robert and Eddie was not only incredibly skilled but also personable, explaining the inspiration behind each course with genuine passion. A special shoutout to our server, Ryan, who made the evening even more enjoyable. He was very attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm -- always appearing at just the right moment with a smile, sake pairing, or thoughtful explanation. His presence really elevated the experience. Every piece of sushi was a work of art. The fish was impeccably fresh -- melt-in-your-mouth toro, perfectly balanced uni, and an unforgettable seared wagyu that still lingers in my memory. The progression of flavors was thoughtful and harmonious, with subtle transitions that made each bite feel like part of a story. The attention to detail extended beyond the food: the pacing was perfect, the sake pairings elevated each dish, and the service team was attentive without being intrusive. This is more than just a meal -- it's an experience that celebrates craftsmanship, seasonality, and heart. If you're looking for an omakase that feels personal, refined, and deeply satisfying, this is the place to go. We will definitely be returning soon.

WORLD-CLASS GRACE meets CULINARY ARTISTRY As someone who has dined at well-regarded restaurants to Michelin-starred restaurants to celebrity-chef restaurants, Momoyama is deserving of critical recognition! Having been accompanied by discerning Japanese friends, we find their cuisine refined, delicate, sophisticated. Very much comparable to the Kansai-style. This is not a surprise given the distinguished pedigree of the executive chef and his team. Always get the omakase, it will feel like a spiritual journey! From the opening dish to the concluding suimono soup, it will feel like a zen experience. As a recent returning customer, I felt the owners, executive chef, and staff deserves also special praise. Due to Valentines weekend, they were fast to respond, warmly gracious, and professionally accommodating to overcome a scheduling mishap and misunderstanding. It was the type of world class service and humble aplomb that ultimately made the impossible possible. The type of courtesy you would find in Asia/Japan or from renown establishments like Four Seasons. And for that, this makes Momoyama one of the most unique Japanese Restaurants in Orange County. We will continue to be back.

Lunch omakase 14 pieces for $65 was a fantastic deal. Excellent Japanese hospitality. Good tasting food. What more can one ask for, especially lunch... Dinner omakase is about $189 for 19 courses. Reservation only

One of the cheaper high quality omakase. The rice on the nigiri on the sweeter side. Seafood is fresh, uni had to be separately ordered. Wish it had sweet shrimp or lobster. The anago temaki dont really care for.
