New Orleans Pharmacy Museum is a history museum at 514 Chartres St in New Orleans, Louisiana, offering visitors a close look at the history of pharmacy and medicine. Set in the heart of the city, it makes a thoughtful stop for travelers who want to explore more than New Orleans’s food, music, and architecture. The collection brings together pharmacy artifacts and detailed information about what visitors are seeing, making the museum a distinctive way to spend time learning about the past. With a 4.7-star rating from 2,859 reviews, it is a well-regarded destination for curious visitors and history enthusiasts.

The museum is spread across two floors, with displays that invite you to slow down and look carefully. Visitors describe the collection as remarkable and the exhibits as well labeled, with plenty to read and discover. Rather than treating the visit as a quick walk-through, plan enough time to examine the objects and read their explanations. That makes the museum especially appealing to people who enjoy self-guided cultural visits and learning at their own pace. If you prefer a more personal introduction, customer reviews recommend a guided tour, which can bring the history and objects to life through a guide’s stories and explanations.

The subject matter reaches beyond pharmacy artifacts alone: visitors also mention information about medicine and its place in history. This gives the museum an engaging perspective on how people have understood and approached health across different eras. A guided visit may suit guests who enjoy an entertaining, educational account of the collection, while independent explorers can take their time with the displays. Reviews mention guided tours at particular times, but schedules can vary, so check current tour details before planning around one. Some visitors have also found it useful to ask questions as they explore, especially when they want more context about individual objects.

Located at 514 Chartres St, the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum is a fitting choice for solo travelers, couples, and anyone interested in local history, medicine, or unusual museum collections. Reviewers describe it as a worthwhile excursion and a memorable part of a New Orleans trip, with enough detail to reward visitors who are happy to read and look closely. Visitors have praised its affordability and noted that discounts for seniors, students, and veterans were available at the time of their visit; confirm current admission information directly before going. For an informative break in the city, this New Orleans history museum offers a focused, hands-on-feeling look at pharmacy’s past, without needing a full day to explore.

Really nice museum and a lovely little excursion during my solo trip! It’s spread across two floors and there’s actually quite a lot to see and read, so I’d definitely recommend factoring in a good amount of time. If you’re doing the self-guided tour and want to properly read everything, I’d allow at least an hour. I paid $10 for entry for the self-guided tour, which I thought was very reasonable. It was also very well air-conditioned, which was definitely appreciated! Overall, no complaints at all. A cute, interesting and affordable way to spend an hour or so.

This place was amazing full of so many things to look at. well labeled with lots of information So you know what you're looking at. Their Collection truly is remarkable. Super affordable at $10 with discounts for seniors, students and veterans. Besides pharmacy artifacts, it also has information on African American pharmacy history, midwife history, And even a section on eyeglasses. I love it.

A really interesting little place. I think it would have been better with a guide or an actor playing the part of a pharmacist telling you about different medicines, but i think thats mornings only. Your best best if you go another time is to go armed with chatgbt, take photos and ask it to tell you about the most interesting things. It was great.

A must-do in New Orleans! We did the Sunday 10 AM guided tour of the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum with Owen, and it was genuinely one of the highlights of our trip. Definitely do the guided tour rather than just walking through on your own! …
