Ordered to go (phone, in person pick up). Satay chicken quality is amazing, with rich peanut sauce. Pad see ew and pineapple fried rice also cooked very well. Portion size reasonable. Pricing is reasonable. Update: added video, and tried dine in. Khao Soi is rich in flavor and is recommended (5/5). Fried Whole Fish is well made , with lots of fruits on top (4/5). Interior design of restaurant is cute ; as it is remodeled from an old home. Free street parking is easy.
This place is an absolute gem! The food is amazing, the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming and the prices are the cherry on top!
With the semblance of a Thai backpacker outpost, the wood finishes, tropical garden entry and intimate booth seating make for a truly unique dining experience in Oakland. An elderly mom-and-pop duo serve home style Thai cooking — smaller portioned and very reasonably priced, making it perfect for sharing multiple dishes family-style. Roti (crispy fried flatbread with fragrant curry dipping sauce), an excellent starter. Green Papaya Salad, crisp, refreshing and just the right amount of funk from fish sauce. Pineapple Duck Curry from the daily specials, exactly as described — tasty but not the best. Pad See Ew (with choice of protein), pretty standard. While dishes may not change your world, the setting makes for a unique dining experience worth driving for. Cash only.
Great vibe, staff, and selection. Reasonable prices. Unfortunately, most of the food was really bad. Sauces were way too salty, ingredients didn't taste fresh or high-quality, and everything was very oily. I hate to say this, because it is such a lovely spot run by nice people.
