Pho Duoi Bo is a Vietnamese restaurant located at 2465 Alvin Ave in San Jose, California, dedicated to crafting a memorable bowl of beef pho. Situated in the heart of San Jose's vibrant Vietnamese dining scene, this restaurant has earned a 4.5-star rating from nearly 180 reviews by focusing on quality ingredients and a distinctive Hanoi-style broth that sets it apart from many other pho spots in the area. For anyone searching for an authentic and satisfying pho experience in San Jose, Pho Duoi Bo is a name worth knowing.

What makes this Vietnamese restaurant stand out is its commitment to a clean, carefully prepared broth. Diners frequently note the Hanoi-style approach — less cinnamon and star anise than what you might find at other pho places, letting the natural beef flavor shine through. The broth arrives piping hot, and even the bean sprouts are warmed beforehand so they don't cool down your bowl. Guests can then customize their experience with fresh basil, chili, and other traditional condiments. It is comfort food done right, especially welcoming on a cooler California evening.

Pho Duoi Bo also caters to those seeking premium options. The menu features various cuts of filet mignon, including flank slices, fatty cuts, and tender steak portions. For a more upscale experience, there is Kobe beef pho and even a torched Kobe side dish. Portions are generous, and many guests appreciate the balance of quality and quantity. While some items carry a higher price point that reflects the premium ingredients, the portions and overall experience are generally considered reasonable for San Jose's dining landscape. The restaurant focuses solely on pho and does it well, without trying to be everything to everyone.

Open every day from 9:00 AM to 12:30 AM, Pho Duoi Bo accommodates both early lunch crowds and late-night cravings. The ordering process is simple and efficient, which keeps things moving even during busy dinner hours. The restaurant does get crowded at peak times, which speaks to its popularity among locals. The straightforward approach to service means you can count on a consistent, satisfying bowl without unnecessary frills. It is the kind of neighborhood spot that earns regulars through reliability and quality rather than flashy marketing.

Whether you are a solo diner looking for a quick, warming meal, a group of friends seeking quality comfort food, or someone craving a late-night bowl after a long day, Pho Duoi Bo in San Jose delivers. It appeals to Vietnamese food enthusiasts and newcomers alike who appreciate an honest, well-crafted pho. If you find yourself in the San Jose area and want to experience a Hanoi-style broth with premium beef options, this Vietnamese restaurant on Alvin Ave is well worth a visit.

Pricey pho and it was unfortunately mid. Got the pho Kobe ($23). The meat was wasn't that tender and it was cut too thick. I feel pho dao has better meat quality. Broth was just ok. I feel pho San Jose has more flavorful broth but obviously not as clean. Also got a side of torched kobe ($12). Tasted fine but again def not Kobe much less a5 or anything near and was still charged insane prices. After tax and tip, the meal came out to $40 for just me. Overall, it's not bad but the price point doesn't match the quality. Prob wouldn't make a detour to come back any time soon.

Beef pho and chicken pho were good. Ingredients were good quality. The food was in big portion at reasonable prices. The service was fine. Some tables will happen to sunlight directly to the eyes in the evening time. There was no other selections of noodles but standard pho. It is busy during dinner time. The space in the restaurant is fair not too close between tables.

A pretty high quality pho restaurant that solely focuses on this beef pho broth they have along with various cuts of filet mignon they use It's a little salty with hints of msg! I ordered #12 that had a flank slice, a fatty slice and a steak that came in multiple slices! There was also a thin noodle that was just alright inside. The toppings that they include are bean sprouts and lime as well as mint. But you can order some more premium toppings and extra premium meets such as oxtails and even a while beef rib thats really flavorful and falls off the bone easily! Be aware that due to the quality of all these meats, most of these dishes at least start at $20 and can increase from there. Adding stuff like the oxtails like i mentioned is an extra $9, but the quality definitely reflects that! Especially on their Instagram posts... Other than that, the whole restaurant itself looks pretty nice with their decorations including the roof tiles, but some interesting roof decorations as including a disco ball and extra fun coloured lights, maybe it doubles as a dance area in the night? On the table too is all the regular condiments and supplies at the table such as Sriracha, hot chili sauce, spoons and more! They also offer milk tea. That is pretty average, but you can also get it for free if you type up a Yelp review specifically... (sorry google people :( ). But, once you mention that to the friendly staff about that review, as you get up and pay for your table (Make sure you remember the table number) as with other Vietnamese restaurants they'll just make sure not to charge you for the milk tea or thai milk tea.

Haven't had much Pho but went with some friends here today. Overall I'll say I liked it a lot more then the couple other places I've been locally. Good amount of meat with a solid soup. Pricing wise I think their about what you'd expect in this area so would recommend.

My brother noticed the Hanoi-style broth (less cinnamon and star anise essence). The broth came out nice and hot. Even the bean sprouts were heated so it does not take away the heat. Flavor was simple and we can add basil or any spicy extras. It was a great comfort food for a cold day. I liked being able to order short rib and Chinese breadsticks for additional texture variety. Went a second time recently and there was a drastic reduction in the amount of beef put in the pho orders. We had plenty of noodles and broth but scraps of meat. We brought some home to my parents and were disappointed by the amount. Music was a bit loud to converse.
