This is one of the oldest bakeries in Los Angeles, and it definitely lives up to its reputation. My sister recommended it, saying the cakes are delicious and not overly sweet, so I made the drive from Pasadena to try it myself. She was absolutely right—the cakes are fantastic and perfectly balanced in sweetness. Highly recommend!

We tried the strawberry cake and It wasn’t bad, we also tried the wintermelon pastry, which was similar to a sweet cucumber flavor. I liked it. And we got an almond pastry. I wouldn’t say it was exceptional but I would go back to try their butterfly cookies and other pastries.

A wonderful and fun bakery in the heart of Chinatown. Love the design and vibes, but also the cookies and cake! Nothing super special other than a fun bakery in this area. Good prices and all. I think i wouldn't place it at any top favorite bakery of mine here in LA, but one i won't say no to either.

Nothing beats a charming bakery with a line out the door! I placed a large order for a Lunar New Year celebration, and Lorna made the entire experience seamless from start to finish. She was incredibly kind, offered thoughtful recommendations on what to order, and delivered exceptional quality and flavor in every baked good. Truly a 10/10 experience. Thank you, Lorna and to your wonderful staff for making my first visit so stellar, and tasty! I’ll definitely be back and can't recommend this bakery enough to anyone searching for delicious baked goods in the DTLA area. Happy, auspicious New Year, Phoenix Bakery!

Strawberry almond cake was good. Not too sweet. With fresh strawberries. Front desk lady was kind and very helpful. No wonder the bakery has been there for 88 years. Parking can be hard so plan accordingly.
