About

Plato's Closet Matthews is listed on FindALoco in Matthews, NC with address, phone, website, hours, and map location. Common services and related keywords include Used Clothing Store.

Plato's Closet Matthews is a used clothing store in Matthews, North Carolina, at 10035 E Independence Blvd, Matthews, NC 28105. It offers a secondhand alternative to buying everything new, with clothing and outfits available to browse in person. Shoppers describe finding good-quality pieces at prices below new clothing, and one customer mentioned putting together three outfits during a visit. Since the selection is pre-owned and changes over time, availability, condition, and sizing can vary. This is a place to look through the racks rather than expect every item to be new or a particular piece to be in stock.

The store may suit people who enjoy searching for useful finds, want to stretch a clothing budget, or are open to considering secondhand items. A male customer in his forties praised the quality, selection, and savings compared with buying new, suggesting the store can appeal to more than one age group or gender. Other shoppers note that finding the right size may take time, especially when the store is busy. Visiting with flexibility and allowing time to browse can make the experience more comfortable; a specific size, style, or outfit is not guaranteed on any given day.

Plato's Closet Matthews also buys secondhand clothing from customers, but reviews indicate that the buying process and offers may not meet everyone’s expectations. Sellers describe selective acceptance, time spent sorting items, and payments they felt were low for some pieces. Because the store chooses what it will purchase, bringing items does not guarantee that they will be accepted or that the offer will match their original price. If you plan to sell, it may help to ask about the current buying process before making a trip and to keep expectations realistic. Customer experiences differ, so the reviews offer useful context rather than a promise of a particular outcome.

Customer feedback reflects both value and trade-offs: some visitors appreciate the affordable finds, while others mention busy periods, limited size matches, or disappointment with selling offers. The business has a 3.9-star rating from 531 reviews, providing one snapshot of a varied customer experience. Plato's Closet Matthews is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. If you are shopping on a weekend, allow extra time to browse, particularly during busy periods. For local shoppers in Matthews and nearby areas, it is a practical stop to explore secondhand clothing and see what is available that day.

Theyre very picky on what they buy yet theres alot in there they've bought that's out of style or a little faded or worn, as it is a second hand store! So things are gonna be that way. This isnt a store selling brand new clothes never worn before. Just another version of a goodwill but yuppier.. they made me wait for over a hour just to tell me they passed on all the clothes I brought in for resale. Their reasons were not valid and very contradicting. Disappointed in my experience.

The place was busy with customers. I was lucky to have a $10 discount for $30 purchase. I did manage to get three outfits it took a while to find it in my size maybe one or two won't fit but I'll give it a try. That's what I get for going on a Sunday afternoon. Saturday is probably the best time to come. Probably early.

I'm a 42 yo male and love this store. Great quality, good selection, and way cheaper than anything brand new.

Honestly, this place is such a rip off. They took 24 of my items for $54 & one dress alone in there I bought for like $68 and they charged me four dollars for it? Like come on four dollars??? I will never be going back here

If you want to sell clothes, go to the University City location. That location took much less time to sort through my items and I got paid much more. I have never left with all the items I came in with at that location. This location takes 2 hours to sort through a few items only to get little to nothing in exchange. Occasionally there are good staff members at this location. The rest act like cliquey high schoolers. They also only like to greet certain people. Management needs to do better with hiring and training because it has been like this for years.
