Ray's Cafe & Tea House is a neighborhood cafe at 141 N 9th St in Philadelphia, PA, where a coffee stop can turn into a relaxed meal. Guest experiences describe a small, homey space with a lively, bustling feel and, at times, a crowd inside. While the name suggests a straightforward cafe, visitors also find a restaurant- or diner-style experience, with food that makes it easy to stay awhile. The cafe has a 4.4-star rating from 578 reviews, reflecting a steady stream of guests who come for coffee, dumplings, and comforting dishes.

Coffee is a central part of the visit, with several brewing styles that stand out from an ordinary quick cup. Guests mention slow-dripped coffee, the house “Ray” special cold coffee, and siphon-brewed coffee as memorable choices. A latte is another option, and reviewers say coffee may arrive with a cookie; one guest also recalls a macaroon served with siphon coffee. These details make Ray's a fit for people who enjoy exploring how coffee is prepared, as well as those who simply want a well-made latte in a welcoming setting. Some specialty preparations may take more time than a standard order, so they suit a visit when you are not in a rush.

The food gives the cafe a broader appeal than coffee alone. Hand-made dumplings are a recurring favorite, with pork and cabbage and pork and chive among the varieties guests have enjoyed. A sampler lets diners try more than one filling, while individual orders are available for anyone who finds a favorite. Reviews also call out Taiwanese beef for its rich broth, along with hot and sour soup. Guests describe generous, hot portions and friendly, attentive service. Together, these dishes make the cafe a practical choice for a casual lunch or a meal shared with family or friends, especially if your group wants both a substantial plate and a good coffee afterward.

Ray's Cafe & Tea House is well suited to coffee enthusiasts, dumpling fans, and visitors looking for a relaxed, informal meal near Philadelphia's 9th Street address. The room can feel busy, and some diners report waiting for a table, so allow extra time if you plan to eat in during a popular period. For a quicker visit, stopping for coffee and a cookie may be a simpler option. The cafe is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and closed Sunday. This tiny coffee shop caught my eye after I walked by and noticed a crowd inside. It was afternoon, so I figured I’d drop in for a quick coffee. They claim to use unique brewing techniques—some of their slow-dripped coffees sell for $15 to $20! I decided to try their super-pricey "Ray" special cold coffee. While it was definitely a good, refreshing drink, I'm not entirely convinced it had any extraordinary drip specialty taste to justify the price. I also ordered the tiramisu, which was perfectly fine. It’s a cozy, local small business with a distinct vibe. The owner was quite loud, chatting energetically with some of the customers. All in all, it’s an eccentric spot if you're looking for a different kind of local interaction—no regrets giving it a shot, even if the drip coffee was on the expensive side!

This has been on my list for a while and love the atmosphere! Very homey and bustling, tho it did catch me off guard that it was more of a restaurant/diner feel than a cafe. Seems like there is usually a lot of people so expect a wait time if you are dining in. Coffee was great and comes with cookie which I appreciated. Food was amazing (it is slightly pricier for the quantity than other locations in Chinatown) and flavors were on point. Definitely coming back next time to try the Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup.

Such a cute and lovely place! The dumplings were 10/10, some of the best if not the best I’ve had. The sampler was fun, I usually like pork & cabbage best so got a full order of those, but the pork & chive ended up being my fave! Service was just the right amount of attentiveness and very friendly.

Amazing experience. Arrived an hour before closing, service was fast and friendly. I got a latte (homemade cookie included!), pork dumplings, and a hot a sour soup. All was incredible, and the portions were large and HOT :). Great family …

Outstanding flavors! We did the house specialties. I was blown away by the Taiwanese Beef, the broth is so deep and rich, I don't have the vocabulary to describe it. The dumplings were delicious and meaty, they make them by hand. And the siphon coffee is an amazing treat served with a macaroon. Coffee is pricier than most specialty shops but it's fantastic if you can indulge. They have ultra lux offerings like Jamaican blue mountain as well as less expensive Columbian. Food is reasonably priced for the high quality ingredients and preparation. I'm definitely going back
