Reading Terminal Market is a market at 1136 Arch St in Philadelphia, PA, and a destination for visitors who want to explore the city through food and independent shops. Customer reviews describe a lively, expansive place with an unusually wide range of vendors gathered under one roof. It is easy to arrive with one meal in mind and discover plenty of reasons to stay longer, whether you are browsing, grabbing a quick bite, or deciding what to try next. The market has a 4.7-star rating from 46,428 reviews, reflecting the enthusiasm many visitors share about the experience.

Food is a major part of the appeal. Reviewers mention meats, cheeses, seafood, baked goods, pastries, fresh juices, produce, and prepared meals, alongside restaurants serving options for breakfast, lunch, dessert, or a snack. The selection makes the market especially appealing to people who like to compare flavors and browse before choosing. You can make a meal of one stop or treat the visit as an opportunity to sample something sweet, pick up a savory bite, and keep exploring. With so many food vendors, visitors often find that one trip is not enough to see everything they would like to try.

The experience is about more than eating. Customers also point out that the market includes shops beyond food, with Contessa’s French Linen specifically praised in one review. That mix gives the building a browsing atmosphere as well as a dining one: you can look around, notice the variety of vendors, and make discoveries that were not on your original list. The scale and range are part of the charm, but they also make it helpful to arrive hungry and leave room to explore at your own pace.

Reading Terminal Market is a good fit for travelers visiting Philadelphia, locals looking for a flexible place to eat, and groups with different tastes. Because the vendors span meals, snacks, sweets, and non-food shopping, people can choose their own stops instead of settling on a single menu. It is also well suited to food-minded visitors who enjoy seeing a broad selection in one place and do not mind taking time to browse. If you are near 1136 Arch St, come ready to wander, compare options, and let the variety guide your visit. The market’s appeal lies in that choice: a substantial range of food and shops, all in a central Philadelphia setting.

There are several shops that aren't about food....and they are lovely (shout out to Contessa's French Linen). The reason to go to Reading Terminal Market hungry is made apparent the second you walk in the door. There are numerous types of food vendors with almost a countless amount of meals you could choose from. Cheesesteaks, chicken and waffles, turkey sandwiches, bao buns, sushi, thai food, gyros, pastries, donuts, candy. There are butchers, fish mongers, green grocers, a shop selling oils and vinegars, a couple of general stores. Some food vendors have their own seating, others not so. Some places are so popular that the lines look prohibitive. It's always worth the wait. If you don't find a place with their own seating, there are tables and chairs outside in a covered passway, and some general seating located throughout the market. It's very easy to get turned around inside for a variety of reasons. The cacophony of sounds, sights and smells is intoxicating. For the most manageable crowds, go early or later in the afternoon. Lunch time is the busiest time.

Incredible. Friends took me here while visiting, and I could take a vacation for a week and not come close to trying everything. I have never seen a food market like this, the meats, cheeses, baked goods, and restaurants in this one building would take months to explore fully. Worth the trip to visit while downtown.

Reading Terminal Market is definitely worth visiting if you're in Philadelphia. It's fun to walk around and see the huge variety of food vendors, there's truly something for everyone, whether you're looking for breakfast, lunch, desserts, or a quick snack. The pastries and fresh juices were some of my favorite finds. While I thought the quality of the food varied from vendor to vendor and a few places could be a bit better, that's to be expected with so many different options under one roof. Overall, it's a great spot to explore, try a few different things, and experience one of the city's iconic food destinations.
