Sign in to reviewOh my gosh, it’s such a quiet place with delicious pork slaw dessert that I really really enjoy back in China. They are not that expensive though, but the toys are really fluffy and I love enjoy having tea with them.
Rola Bakery in Newark gets a solid 4 stars from me. First off, finding parking was a breeze. The bakery itself was pretty quiet during my visit, which made for a relaxed atmosphere. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, so you can enjoy your treats on-site if you like. The lady at the front desk was very polite and sweet. They prefer cash if your total is below a certain amount, so please carry some cash with you when visiting this bakery. Speaking of treats, their egg tarts were delicious! The custard was perfectly smooth and silky, with just the right amount of sweetness. The egg flavor was there, but not overpowering, exactly how I like it. The crust was even better – flaky, tender, and perfectly golden brown on the outside. It struck that ideal balance of being slightly crisp without being crumbly. Unfortunately, they were out of milk tea when I went, which was a bit of a bummer since I was really looking forward to trying it. On the pricing side, Rola Bakery leans a little pricier than some other bakeries, so be prepared for that. Overall, Rola Bakery is a great option for grabbing some tasty treats. The egg tarts were fantastic, and the relaxed atmosphere was a plus. Just keep in mind they might be out of some items and their prices are a bit higher.
Incredible baked goods here. So tasty and everything felt like it was made with love
I come here from time to time, especially when I’m in the area and craving something sweet (I do live quite far). The taste is generally average — nothing particularly special, but good enough to satisfy a craving. However, this is now the second time I’ve bought spoiled pastries from here, and that’s unacceptable. The first time was a taro floss box cake with salted egg yolk. When I got home and opened it, the taro filling was already sour. I thought maybe it was due to warmer weather at the time and didn’t think too much of it. A few days ago, I came back and bought several items again. This time, it was the regular pork floss cake. When I got home and opened it, the mayonnaise inside had clearly gone bad — there was an obvious off smell. The problem is, this happened in winter, so temperature is not an excuse. As I mentioned, I live far away, so I’m not going to make a special trip back just to argue about it. But I also won’t be coming back. Having this kind of food quality issue happen twice is not something I can overlook. Food safety should be the most basic standard for any bakery, and this experience seriously undermined my trust. Just a heads-up to others considering buying here — please pay attention to this.
I didn’t get want anything from the bakery at the moment since I had a pastry early morning, but I decided to give this place a try and try one of their milk teas. Milk Tea is alright, but some Ube didn’t blend in with the drink. It seems like that the place is still renovating since there are no TVs turned on and that there are rarely any decorations. Some stuff I’m seeing should be put at the backend. I also saw pictures of a large grey teddy bear sitting on the chair, which is quite nice. I’ll max this rating up for four stars at the time being since I didn’t get anything from the bakery. I’m hoping that this place improves soon. Also, some items I see from online such as cakes are not displayed at the display boxes. Perhaps, they are sold out? Remains a mystery at the moment.
