Rong Biển Restaurant is a well-known Vietnamese restaurant in San Jose, California, situated inside Grand Century Mall on Story Road. As part of the vibrant Little Saigon district in Northern California, this dining spot draws locals and visitors alike who are searching for authentic Vietnamese flavors without leaving the heart of the community. Whether you are stopping by for a weekday lunch or planning a weekend family dinner, Rong Biển offers a welcoming space to enjoy home-style cooking in one of San Jose's most culturally rich neighborhoods.

The menu at Rong Biển covers a wide range of Vietnamese favorites, with particular strength in its seafood offerings. The stir-fried lobster with butter and garlic is a standout that has impressed repeat visitors with its rich flavor and well-prepared meat. Another popular choice is the stir-fried whelks in tamarind sauce, a dish that brings a tangy and savory combination rarely found at typical restaurants. For those who enjoy a hands-on dining experience, the soft shell crab with butter is a flavorful option that pairs beautifully with steamed rice.

One of the biggest draws at this San Jose restaurant is its Vietnamese hot pot, known locally as lẩu. The Hot Pot Combo is designed for sharing, making it ideal for family dinners or group outings. A family-sized combo typically includes a seafood-based hot pot with a Thai-style broth that has a mild, aromatic tang without being overly sour, along with salt and pepper pork chop, rice, and dessert. Guests also appreciate the egg rolls as a starter, and many note that side soups come generously topped with meat — a detail that sets Rong Biển apart from other Vietnamese spots in the area.

The atmosphere inside the restaurant is casual and unpretentious, fitting for the mall setting. Seating is straightforward, and the staff will guide you to an available table upon arrival. While some guests have noted that service can vary, the portions are consistently generous and the food quality remains the main reason people return. The dinner menu is notably extensive compared to the breakfast and lunch options, giving evening diners plenty of choices to explore.

Rong Biển Restaurant keeps convenient hours throughout the week, opening daily at 9:00 AM. On Monday through Thursday, doors close at 10:00 PM, while Friday through Sunday the restaurant stays open until 11:00 PM to accommodate later diners. Located at 1111 Story Rd Ste 1080, San Jose, CA 95122, inside Grand Century Mall, it is easy to find and accessible for anyone exploring the Little Saigon area. If you are looking for an authentic Vietnamese restaurant in San Jose that serves generous portions and dishes you may not find everywhere else, Rong Biển is worth a visit.

Review for: Hot Pot Combo & Egg Rolls 👍 Hot Pot Combo Family dinner (C) for two : That's hotpot with seafood, salt & pepper pork chop, rice, and dessert. This is a great place to try Vietnamese hot pot, aka lẩu. The Thai soup broth tastes like a mild tim yum soup that is not typically "too sour and too spicy". Seafood is def not fancy as it's priced reasonably, but the seafood cooked in the broth turns out to be a bomb! A plate of fish sauce for dipping makes it tastes even better! Salt and pepper pork chop, this has to be one of the best in Vietnamese restaurants. Lean but tender, with less than thin coating, bursting with flavors. 📎 FYI Dessert is listed as "tráng miệng" on the menu, which means "dessert", therefore the selections may be different with each visit, ask before ordering, as combo meals may not suit everyone's taste. We had one of those with typical Vietnamese ingredients, taro, sago, coconut milk. Not overly sweet and rich, perfect for a spicy hotpot meal. 👍 Egg Rolls Crispy fried egg rolls (chả giò), stuffed generously, without taro, but with a little crab meat.

I've visited this restaurant several times now, and while the food usually delivers, the service leaves a lot to be desired. Let’s start with the positives: stir-fried Lobster with Butter & Garlic, has consistently impressed me. The flavor is rich and good, and the lobster is always cooked just right. It's definitely a go-to dish for me and has never disappointed. Most of the other dishes I’ve tried here have been pretty good as well. The flavors are generally bold and good. It’s clear the kitchen knows what they’re doing when it comes to cooking seafood. The only dish that didn’t hit the mark for me was the Stir-fried Lobster in Tamarined Sauce—it just didn’t work for my taste, with the sauce overpowering the natural flavor of the lobster. Unfortunately, the service is where things really fall short. The staff is not very attentive, and on more than one occasion, I’ve had to wait too long just to get someone’s attention. One particular experience stands out: I asked for a 4–5 pound lobster, and when they said they didn’t have that size, I told them I’d pass on it. Instead of being understanding, the woman taking the order gave me attitude and didn’t return to our table at all after that. That kind of behavior really takes away from what could be a great overall experience.

A great Vietnamese lunch spot in the center of the Little Saigon area. Service here was fine - nothing out of the ordinary for a viet restaurant. The portions are really good, and the side soup came with meat, which is something I don’t typically see when ordering a noodle/rice meat plate. They also had very good calamari, and had very classic tasting Vietnamese iced coffee. Lots of seating available, and doesn’t seem to get too busy. Good spot to dine in for Viet food overall.

When you walk in, they will greet you and sit you anywhere. There are a plastic wall fence to pritect you and others. The menu have a small section for breakfast and lunch but the dinner section is huge. What I ordered was Stir-friend whelks in tamarind sauce, soft shell crab with butter, and 2 pc roti quail. They tastes like how I remembered when I was little. Would recommend 11/10!
