Easy to chat with on car maintenance. Dropped off a used car for transmission and 4WD transfer case fluid changes, change filters in cabin & intake, and swap oil & filter out. Picked up after closing just got off transbay bus over on next block a 3 minute walk to the shop to pickup. Easy.

Craig, the owner of Royal Auto Repair in Alameda, is hands down the most honest, professional, and knowledgeable mechanic you will ever meet. He and his entire team are truly top-notch. They never try to upsell or push unnecessary services—something that’s so rare and refreshing in the auto repair world. My whole family brings our cars to Craig because we’re so impressed with not only the quality of his work, but also his dedication, integrity, and clear communication. Craig and team were fantastic to deal with and repaired my Fiat 500e quickly for a reasonable price. Being an electric vehicle, the request was non-standard and the repair was done without question. I brought my car here due to the location, a previous good experience, and because the owner has implied he was very familiar with my older model car (an invaluable resource these days). My car had starting issues that another shop failed to address. I told them my car's model has a well known issue which presents with these exact symptoms and they might want to check that. I was brushed off multiple times and when they finally offered to check it, it was made clear they didn't think that could possibly be the problem, but they did think I was an idiot for thinking it could be. They replaced my fuel pump and I had to bring it back two days later when the car died. They replaced some relays, but it failed to turn over several times on their lot after this "repair", I refused to take it home when they insisted it was fine and that the pump just wasn't primed. They called to tell me they had installed a faulty fuel pump and that they would warrantee it and swap in a new one the next day, but walked this back and claimed no such thing happened and that nothing was wrong with the fuel pump. This went on for two months without a fix. I went elsewhere and they checked the problem I suggested to Craig at the beginning without me having to say a word about it and that turned out to be the problem and my car was fixed in 3 days. The fuel pump also died three weeks after that and I had to get a tow and pay another $900 for the fuel pump that I paid Royal $900 to install to be replaced. Edit: Broke down yesterday, towed to other shop. What another part Royal played with was broken. I am now proactively replacing anything they touched.
