Ruka is the kind of place that looks like it belongs in a magazine: dark, dramatic, a little theatrical, and very “fashion sushi.” We went for dinner and ordered the Hamachi Ceviche, Vat Bottom Girl roll, and Tuna Tataki. All three were excellent. The Tuna Tataki was the standout. Nori-seared tuna, thin jalapeño slices, crispy sweet potato, pea sprouts, and that bright green jalapeño ponzu / avocado crema. Beautiful plate, clean flavors, just enough heat. The Vat Bottom Girl is a fun, well-balanced roll — sliced hamachi over spicy tuna with pickles, kizami wasabi, their vat-bottom soy, and tempura crunch. Not a basic California-style roll; it actually tastes like someone thought about it. The Hamachi Ceviche (the “Hampshire device”) came over sushi rice with avocado, coconut, leche de tigre, and those big purple leaves on top. Fresh, citrusy, and one of the prettier dishes on the table. Fish quality was high, plating is clearly part of the experience, and the Japanese–Peruvian mix (aji, yuzu, ponzu, coconut, charred jalapeño) works better than a lot of fusion spots. Service was attentive without hovering. It’s a lively downtown room — good for a date or a small group, a little loud if you want a quiet conversation. Not a perfect 5 only because it’s pricey for the portion sizes and the room can feel more scene than sanctuary. Still, if you want sushi that looks as good as it tastes in the middle of downtown Boston, this is an easy recommendation. We’d go back.

This is one of the coolest places I've ever eaten at. The food was fresh, flavorful, delicious, beautifully presented, and it came out quick. The service was great and the ambiance was a colorful well crafted combination of Asian, Latin American, Maya/Aztec influence. Great place for a date night.

Absolutely amazing! I went with my best friend and we eat pretty differently and were able to split everything and enjoyed each dish. Jesus was so wonderful and attentive and gave great advice on which dishes we should get when we asked for recommendations. I would strongly recommend the bao buns! We ended up ordering a second plate of them! One of my top favorite restaurants and already can’t wait to go back.

Delicious Sushi but Service Needs Improvement. We had dinner at RUKA in Boston and the sushi was truly excellent. We ordered the Hawaiian and the Phoenix Sunrise—both were fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. However, the service didn’t match the quality of the food. We received only the Phoenix Sunrise roll at first and had to wait for our waitress to check why the second sushi was missing. We also ordered an Old Fashioned, and as you can see in Photo with number 1, we were served just a glass with whiskey and an ice block. Meanwhile, our friends received the full smokey presentation shown in Photo with number 2, which made the difference even more noticeable. On top of that, our cocktails were forgotten entirely at one point, and we had to follow up again to find out what was happening. The food was great, which is why I’m giving four stars, but the service definitely needs more consistency and attention.
