Sap's Ver Fine Thai Cuisine

We visited this Thai restaurant for dinner because it's one of the few places open late every day. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the start. We waited about 5–10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us and seated us. After that, it took another 15 minutes before someone came to take our order or even serve us water. The food arrived fairly quickly once the order was placed. We started with the Fried Thai Chives Dumplings, which were decent and probably the best part of the meal. For the main course, we ordered the Chicken Pad Kee Mao, but it was overly oily and lacked the authentic flavors we were expecting. Overall, the service was slow and inattentive, and the food didn't make up for it. Considering we drove 40 minutes to try this place, the experience simply wasn't worth the trip.

Let me start by saying we’ve frequented Madam Mam’s as a family for 2 decades and love them. My adult daughter discovered Saps last year and has decided she likes it better, so we were very excited to try for ourselves. The interior decor was similar and had the same homey feel. Service was slow this evening and it took almost as long to get drinks and to place our order, as it took to get our food! But the waitstaff was super nice and accommodating. We started with shumai and it was frankly one of the worst things I’ve had in a very long time. Dense, flavorless filling, enveloped in a way too thick wrapper. The was NOT the moist, soft, steamed shumai one would expect! Priced at $8.50, it was 4 dry, tasteless lumps of sadness with a dipping sauce that was just as lackluster. The main meal was just okay. We got exactly what we typically get at Mam’s - garee and pad se ewe. The garee was just as flavorful, but the beef was nowhere near as tender. We got two servings of pad se ewe and mine was just about the worst version of the dish that I’d ever had, anywhere - the noodles were not cooked through, the whole dish was dry, meat was tough and it just lacked flavor, and was also lukewarm. My daughter’s, which was brought out at the exact same time, on the other hand, was great. It was still a little bit on the dry side, but had a great wok hei flavor that mine lacked and was piping hot. It just seemed like mine had been sitting around or reheated. Based on this one meal, I would not return. But we *may* give it another shot simply bec my kid has eaten there several times and has loved it. Just a very disappointing first visit.

LOVE Sap’s!! Would order from here weekly if I lived closer. The calamari was crunchy and delicious. The pad thai is wonderful and always enough to take home leftovers. The green papaya was new to me and very good - although the way the lettuce was cut was a little difficult to eat in one bite. Bf got the Sap’s Special pork belly panang curry and ate the whole thing 😁 our waiter was very funny too and really negotiated with us on how spicy we wanted our dishes - he was right, level 1 was fine for me lol

Great place, been here twice. Large amount of protein options for each dish, great flavor. Not as expensive as a lot of other Thai places around. I had the fried tofu and yellow curry with shrimp. They give you the rice separately, like most other places, and then I dumped it into the curry. The portioning is very generous as well.

Austin and its late night king Saps has been a favorite for years ! Family owned and operated they have taken the flavors from across world and brought us the spice and authenticity that we crave from such an eclectic culture and food scene! Famous chili crisp and delicious additions. Don’t miss the Pad see ew and tom Kah William is the magic that makes this place glow! We once walked in with over 30 people and they happily seated us and treated us to the extravagance that only a real local spot could.
