Tucked away inconspicuously off Pearl Street next to a Subway, Souper Pho is the kind of place you could easily miss—but absolutely shouldn’t. What it lacks in visibility, it more than makes up for in quality. In fact, the food here is at least as good as anything you’d find in a Chinatown, which is saying a lot. A couple of dishes, though, truly stand out. The beef chow fun is exceptional, carrying that coveted smoky, charred aroma known as wok hei. The rice noodles are perfectly chewy, the beef is tender and velvety, and everything is coated in a rich, savory dark soy glaze that ties it all together beautifully. The Singapore noodles are just as impressive. They deliver a distinct curry flavor alongside that same wok-fired wok hei aroma. The thin rice vermicelli has a satisfying bounce, and the combination of shrimp, pork, egg, and crunchy vegetables like peppers and onion creates a dish layered with texture and savory umami depth from soy and oyster sauce. Honestly, both of these dishes surpass versions I’ve had in places like Seattle International District and Boston Chinatown—which is no small feat. Souper Pho may not look like much from the outside, but inside the kitchen, they’re turning out dishes that rival (and sometimes beat) some of the best-known spots around. Definitely worth seeking out.

Small dine in or takeaway. Great service and the food is top notch. The Tom Kah soup is the best I have ever had, a bit sweet, savory and spice. Perfect antidote to a cold and gray rainy day. The broth has a blend of flavors that I can’t describe but am anxious to have again. I ate of this meal for three days. Great service as well.

Best Pho in Tacoma. Banh mi is very good. We get a cup of the broth when we don’t get the pho cause it’s delicious. Appetizers are good as well

Clean, quiet, fresh, quick. I usually get level 3 or 4 spicy, but lately seems too much. New to thus place, I ordered Singapore noodles at level 2. Nice medium level. No nose drip, no cough. Fresh vegetables and shrimp. Just enough, maybe a little more than enough portion size. I will likely return if working in the area again.

One of the best Asian restaurants in Tacoma. I just had the combination (Souper) large size Pho and it was delicious. The broth is really good with a generous portion of high quality beef and meatballs. Even the bean sprouts and basil were crunchy and fresh. This place also serves Chinese and Thai (common in the Northwest) food but I didn't try it.
