Sumo Automotive Repair is a car repair and maintenance service at 2327 SE Powell Blvd in Portland, Oregon. The shop serves drivers looking for help with diagnostics, repairs, and routine vehicle service, with weekday hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed Saturday and Sunday, so customers planning a visit can arrange a time during the workweek. Its location on SE Powell Boulevard makes it a local option for Portland-area motorists who need to discuss a vehicle concern with an automotive repair team.

Customer accounts describe a range of vehicles and repair needs, rather than one narrow specialty. Drivers have mentioned diagnostic work and repairs for a 2011 Toyota 4Runner, a 1993 Mitsubishi Delica used as a daily driver, and a Nissan Skyline. One customer also described bringing in a 2006 Nissan 350Z after worrying it had major problems, and said the shop identified that a previous mechanic had not added oil. These examples suggest Sumo Automotive Repair may be worth considering when you need a mechanic to investigate a specific concern or service a less common vehicle, though customers should confirm the shop can handle their particular make and issue.

Reviews highlight responsive communication as an important part of the experience. One 4Runner owner said Trevor and the team answered questions, arranged a diagnostic and repair, and got the vehicle back on the road within a day. Another customer seeking help for a Delica said the team completed work that helped them continue a planned vacation. A Skyline owner described receiving a pre-purchase inspection, or PPI, and service shortly after buying the car, before beginning a long drive. These accounts point to customers who value clear replies, timely coordination, and practical help preparing a vehicle for the road.

Feedback is not uniformly positive, and a balanced picture matters when choosing a repair shop. One updated review says the owner tried to make things right after work related to a battery-drain concern and a recommended stabilizer bar link replacement, but the customer reported a subsequent noise and a safety concern involving a damaged skid plate. That account is a reason to ask questions, clarify what work is approved, and discuss any concern promptly if something feels wrong after service. Sumo Automotive Repair has a 4.7 rating from 120 reviews, but individual experiences can differ; prospective customers may find it useful to read recent reviews alongside the overall rating.

Sumo Automotive Repair may suit Portland drivers seeking diagnostic attention, repairs, or service for a daily driver, as well as owners of vehicles such as the Delica or Skyline who want to discuss their needs before booking. To make the visit productive, describe the symptoms, share relevant vehicle details, and ask what the proposed work includes. The shop is at 2327 SE Powell Blvd, Portland, OR 97202, and is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. It is closed on weekends, so contact the business during weekday hours to confirm availability and whether it is equipped for your vehicle and requested service.

Updated review The owner genuinely tried to make things right, but the work left me with a safety issue. I came in for a battery drain and approved a stabilizer bar link replacement they recommended. Afterward the car made a noise. When I brought it back, I was shown a damaged skid plate, which I replaced myself, but the noise got worse. I didn't feel safe driving back to Sumo, so I went to a closer shop. The links were only finger-tight, and one had come loose and was pressing on my brake line. The drain also isn't fully fixed; the car still dies intermittently. Better but not fully resolved. I'm told the tech is gone, but this could have seriously hurt someone. The owner seems like a good guy, but I won't be returning.
