I like supporting local business because they are essential and I know how hard it is to start and maintain a small business firsthand. As someone who offers a service, and is paid for a work that takes creativity, time, effort and lots of labor I would think someone who is in a similar position would appreciate and respect the work. While I didn’t use this business I was very upset when I found out my mom was used by this business. The owner Tania commissioned a piece from her, a greenery flower wall. Something that adds value to her salon as she keeps on promoting on socia media for her bookings. My mom gave her the cost estimate of her work and even disclosed the amount she had to pay for materials. That was my moms second mistake, she too is growing her small business and is learning along the way. Tania wanted to pay only the cost of materials and not the agreed upon price. She claimed that she had misunderstood and thought the price she gave her for the cost of the materials was the total cost. Even though on numerous occasions my mom clarified everything along the way as she didn’t want to charge her for something Tania would not want. She thought clarity and honesty and being upfront would result for better business. This was not the case. Tania was told from the beginning the cost of the commission and any added costs as she later wanted more on the piece. She proceeded to tell my mom that she didn’t have the money to pay for the commission and offered to pay installments. Something that she never mentioned in the beginning of the commission. My mom, understanding that times are tough now agreed to receive the agreed upon payment split as two payments. The last payment my mom received was short and she reached out and again Tania said that she thought the price was the cost of materials and did not want to pay the rest. Ended up paying only the cost of materials. Throughout the process Tania often was hard to work with and while I understand a client wanting to stay within a budget, she was told very clearly the cost of her new demands which she agreed to pay. Imagine I come in to her establishment and tell her I have a budget, she as a hair dresser tells me what she can do and we agree on a price then I tell her to add on other services and later refuse to pay...Although this post has nothing to do with the services she offers I did want to make it clear the kind of person and tone she is setting for the establishment.
