Temple of Hair is a hair salon in Portland, Oregon, at 1526 SE Elliott Ave #6, Portland, OR 97214. It offers a neighborhood setting for people looking for a haircut and a stylist whose approach feels like a good fit. Customer feedback describes a warm, inclusive atmosphere where people feel welcome and celebrated. Reviewers also mention the salon’s natural light and convenient parking, and its location near Ladd’s Addition makes it easy to pair an appointment with a walk around the neighborhood. For anyone searching for a Portland hair salon with a welcoming feel and a local setting, Temple of Hair is a place to explore.

Haircut experiences are personal, and the reviews reflect that. Several customers praise their cuts and describe leaving refreshed, confident, and happy with a new look. Amy is singled out by name in positive reviews for her friendly manner, humor, and ability to help a customer move from long, unruly hair toward a more stylish cut. Another reviewer says they followed Michael to this location from a previous salon, suggesting that the stylist relationship mattered enough to continue at the new address. These comments point to a salon that serves people seeking both a familiar stylist and a change in style.

The feedback is not uniformly positive, so it is worth approaching a haircut with clear expectations. Some reviewers were dissatisfied with the result or felt that more length was cut than they wanted, including a customer who sought a curly cut. If preserving length, shaping curls, or making a major change is important, describe the desired result in specific terms before the cut begins. Consider showing reference photos and agreeing on how much length may be removed. This practical conversation can help you and your stylist align on what “a trim,” “a cleanup,” or a new shape means before scissors come out. Reviews are individual experiences, but they offer a useful reminder that clear communication matters.

Temple of Hair may suit Portland residents who value an inviting environment, want to work with a particular stylist, or are considering a fresh haircut. The comments mention Amy and Michael, but availability and scheduling can change, so confirm who is taking appointments when you book. The salon’s location on SE Elliott Avenue puts it near the Ladd’s Addition area; reviewers appreciate the light, parking, and neighborhood walkability. If you are comparing hair salons in Portland, weigh those practical details alongside the stylist’s experience with your hair type and the style you have in mind.

The listed rating is 4.7 from 74 reviews, offering a helpful snapshot of customer feedback rather than a guarantee of any one appointment’s outcome. Posted hours are Monday 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday 11:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., Thursday and Friday 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m., and Sunday 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Check current availability and hours before visiting. For a haircut in Portland, Oregon, Temple of Hair combines a neighborhood location with customer-described warmth, while making a thoughtful conversation about length and style an important part of the visit.

I waited a long time to post this since I was traumatized by my experience here but I have curly hair and I went to get a curly cut from Michael. I was super excited since I'd usually go to great clips and I could finally afford to go somewhere that I thought would give me better service. I made sure to follow the directions on the website and talked to Michael about the cut at which point he just started cutting it off and as he said "hacking at it". He made sure to syle it and told me if I noticed anything that needed to be fixed to let him know and I could come back which I appreciated. I ended up going back a few days later since I noticed both sides of my hair were really uneven with layering and was disconnected which he agreed and "fixed". Because of this he cut it even shorter as a result. After washing my hair from the second cut I noticed one side of my hair was way shorter than the other, so bad that I went to another salon and they refused to cut my hair since it would be too short and told me to wait a few months before they woul even it out. My hair was originally at my waist and at this point it was above my shoulder. I cried so much you could not imagine. I paid triple the price I ever did for a haircut and i felt so ugly and felt like I lost a part of myself. I didn't want to take pictures of myself for months and I even bought wigs and hair extensions to try and hide it but I finally accepted it and even my friends would make fun of me for how obviously uneven my hair was. I am so scarred by this experience even now my hair is not even close enough to being what it was but at least it's even now. If you have curly hair I would highly recommend not going here. Michael was great as a person but I would never come here again.

Okay, the haircut is fine. BUT, when I send you my fiance with hair long enough to wrap my fingers in and you cut it shorter...come on! Be a friend. Just clean it up and don't ruin the experience for me when I am playing with his hair. …

Amy Rose is awesome. I was a little nervous about finding the right person to chop off my long unruly hair and provide something more stylish that the average buzz cut, and as soon as I walked into the salon, I knew I had found the right person. Amy's super friendly with a spot-on sense of humor blended with just the right amount of sass, she's a master of her craft and and I walked out of there looking and feeling and like a million bucks. Thank you, Amy!

We followed Michael here from another location, and this new place is fantastic. Great light, and good parking, plus it's on the edge of Ladd's Addition - it's hard for me to go there without taking a walk in the neighborhood. I'm glad they …
