The Slanted Door San Ramon

The food at brunch was as delicious as we remembered from our past Slanted Door meals at SF Ferry Building. Papaya salad was light and refreshing, accented with rau ram. We went back for dinner service to try the scrumptious 10- day dry-aged salted wood roasted duck perfected by the late Chef Charles Phan. The highlight of the meal was meeting the folks who make the restaurant special: Debbie Phan (Chef Phan’s sister who graciously suggested just the right amount of lime juice to dab onto the shaking beef dish to bring it to the next level and told me about the special duck), server Mark (who recommended the yummy roast chicken topped with sautéed scallions and served with mushroom chicken fat rice), current Chef (sorry didn’t catch his name) whose sautéed fresh bok choy kissed with garlic and soy sauce plus shiitake mushrooms was simple yet full of umami, and the rest of the staff who helped make our meal special. I usually find cheesecake heavy but the Basque cheesecake with apple oat crumble was light yet creamy and delicious! Ms. Phan graciously poured a fruity Pinot Noir for hubby and me that perfectly complemented the duck! Please note photo only shows a nibbling portion of duck because we had just finished our late lunch not so long ago, so we saved most of the duck to eat later. It was easy for us to talk and the music was perfect: greatest hits from Natalie and Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong. It’s unfortunate that we don’t live nearby because I’d happily eat my meals here several times a week!

Visited to celebrate a birthday. The food is expensive but very delicious. Our party thought the ingredients were really high quality. We especially enjoyed the fish, chicken clay pot, and appetizers such as papaya salad and spring rolls. The restaurant is very big and a great place for special occasions. Our waitress was really nice and helpful so service was exceptional.

This place is awesome. If you are in the mood for Asian style food with some extra delicious fusion touches , this is the right place. Vietnamese flavours, served family style, great drinks, an extensive wine and bourbon selection, coupled with fantastically friendly, helpful servers will make this dining experience one to remember. Head to bed after dinner feeling satisfied that you did something nice for yourself today!! 10 out of 10 would eat here again.

I’ve been a Slanted Door fan since their days at the San Francisco Ferry Building. The San Ramon location is consistent in their food, quality and service. Nothing better than having some of the staples such as the imperial rolls, cellophane crab noodles and shaking beef. But they also introduce new items on the menu so there’s a good circulation of items to try! I also appreciate how they want to get to know you. It speaks to the family business the chef, Charles Phan, built from a small restaurant on Valencia Street. You’ll realize many are an extension of his family and the long-time colleagues/employees are committed to their loyal customers and to the business. The Happy Hour options are a must-try as well. First two photos are the Happy Hour appetizers that vary from $8-10.

My friends and I recently enjoyed a group lunch at Slanted Door in San Ramon. The restaurant boasts a convenient location within a shopping center. We tried many of their lunch dishes, and none of them disappointed! A standout dish was their signature Shaking Beef. While the price might seem a bit high, it's definitely worth trying for the exceptional flavor and quality. Additionally, the pho noodle soup deserves high praise – some of the best we've had. We made a reservation beforehand, which turned out to be unnecessary as the restaurant wasn't particularly crowded during the time we visited. However, it's worth noting that parking at Bishop Garage can get tricky on Saturday mornings when the farmer's market is in full swing. We circled the top floor of Bishop Garage a few times before finding a spot. Overall, we had a fantastic lunch experience at Slanted Door. The delicious food and inviting atmosphere make it a place we'll definitely revisit, especially to explore their dinner menu.
