THIÊN LONG SƠN - THE DRAGON MOUNTAIN is a Vietnamese temple and religious organization in Milpitas, CA, at 3215 Calaveras Rd, Milpitas, CA 95035. Set on a hill above the surrounding area, it brings together a destination for religious reflection and an outdoor visit shaped by its elevated setting. Guests repeatedly describe the grounds as calm, serene, and meditative, offering a measured change of pace from the city below. Its 4.8 rating from 384 reviews reflects how often visitors remember the temple for its peaceful atmosphere and wide valley scenery, rather than only as a quick roadside stop.

The journey upward is a defining part of a visit. Multiple reviewers note a staircase of more than 250 steps from the base, so the ascent deserves preparation rather than being treated as a casual stroll. Some visitors have also reported being able to drive closer to the temple, though walking and an incline may still be involved. One account describes the hike as taking about 40 minutes. These options make the destination relevant both for guests seeking a purposeful uphill walk and for those who prefer to reduce, but not necessarily eliminate, the climb.

At the top, visitors mention a collection of Buddha statues, temple grounds, and striking outlooks across the valley. The views are a recurring part of the experience: reviewers describe seeing rolling hills and, in spring, lush green slopes with colorful wildflowers. The setting therefore rewards unhurried time outdoors as well as quiet contemplation. Review accounts also note that temple rooms may not always be open. Since regular hours are not listed, anyone whose visit depends on indoor access or a particular service should confirm current arrangements directly before traveling. Reviewers have described admission as free, but visitors should verify any current conditions for themselves.

THIÊN LONG SƠN - THE DRAGON MOUNTAIN suits reflective visitors, people interested in Vietnamese Buddhist spaces, and anyone who appreciates views earned by a steady climb. It can also work for small groups or families when everyone plans for the stairs and changing terrain. Weekend visitors have reported limited parking in the lot, which is useful to keep in mind when choosing an arrival time. Comfortable walking shoes, water, and respect for the serene setting can help make the visit more comfortable. The effort of the staircase is repeatedly described as worthwhile once the landscape opens up, giving visitors room to pause, observe, and reset.

Dragon Mountain is a wonderful place for a walk! Be ready to climb the stairs at the beginning, but the effort is absolutely worth it. Once you reach the top, you’re rewarded with a peaceful atmosphere and beautiful views of the valley. The scenery is simply stunning — lush green grass, colorful wildflowers, and fresh, clean air make it a perfect spot to relax and reconnect with nature. Try to arrive early to find parking, as there are only a limited number of spaces available. Information for dogs owners: Dogs not allowed.

Its a beautiful temple. Visited yesterday and didn’t know that we had to climb over 250 steps in order to reach the top. Even though the main temple rooms were closed, the environment was serene and meditative. The views from the top are spectacular. While there is no official closing time that i could find, the guard said that they were closing at 7:30 pm. They should make the opening/closing times public and more transparent.

Amazing hidden gem. If you are in Milpitas do visit this place. You can hike up for 40 min or drive up to the temple. It's free entry. Sunday's there is free lunch starting at 11.30 am. Nice collection of Buddha statues. The view from top is amazing. Very calm and peaceful place. Don't miss the stairs to heaven.

Such a gem of a place!! This is a Vietnamese temple situated atop a hill, there are steps leading all the way to the top. The views during spring time are exceptional as we see all the surrounding hillsides covered in a lush green blanket. We went over a weekend and did not get parking in the lot at the bottom, looks like cars are allowed to drive up to the half way point which has several statues. This is a great option to transfer senior and young children so that they can atleast visit the statues and enjoy the views from there. It can get super hot during peak afternoon but will cool down towards sunset which is the best time as the views are amazing. It took us an hour -90mins to go up and come down. We spent a lot of time soaking in the views, this is easily the best view of the bay across all my hikes so far. The divine smell of orange blossom when we visited during spring was beyond tantalizing and just made me happy!

Amazing place. You can park at base at take steps to top (do not underestimate elevation); or can go to top and park your car. (with this option also, you have to walk/climb some distance - and it’s still good enough) You can drive all the way to temple to drop elderly etc, and come back. Simple, serene, divine place - with beautiful views, and lot of nice, simple arrangements of picnic huts and tables within temple premises.
