Tufts University School of Dental Medicine is a dental school in Boston, Massachusetts, located at 1 Kneeland St, Boston, MA 02111. It provides a university-based setting for people seeking dental care in the city. Patients describe receiving care through different departments, and reviews mention working with dental students. Because experiences and treatment needs can vary, this may be a place to consider when you are open to a teaching-clinic environment and have time to discuss your care with the team. The school is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and closed on Saturday and Sunday.

The patient feedback available for Tufts University School of Dental Medicine is mixed, reflected in a 3.3-star rating from 268 reviews. Some reviewers say they value their dentist or have continued receiving care across multiple departments. Others describe communication, pricing, or staff interactions that did not meet their expectations. These accounts are individual experiences rather than a guarantee of what a new patient will encounter, but they are useful context when comparing dental care options. In particular, reviews mention that care may involve multiple appointments, so it can help to ask how many visits a proposed treatment might require and how those visits are scheduled.

Before making an appointment, contact the relevant department to confirm that it handles your needs, ask about availability, and clarify the expected fees. One reviewer describes a difference between a quoted price and the amount requested at the office, while another says the written agreement matched the price ultimately charged. To avoid surprises, ask for an itemized estimate, confirm what it covers, and keep a copy of any written financial agreement. If you are considering the school because you expect care to cost less, request current pricing directly rather than relying on assumptions or another patient’s past experience.

This Boston dental school may suit patients who are comfortable with a teaching setting, can plan for follow-up appointments, and want to explore care through a university dental program. It may be less convenient if you need a quick visit, have a long commute, or cannot easily return for additional appointments; one reviewer, for example, mentions traveling almost two hours. For urgent concerns, contact the school to ask whether it can accommodate your timing, or consult a local dental provider if you need prompt attention. A direct conversation about treatment, scheduling, costs, and communication preferences can help you decide whether Tufts University School of Dental Medicine is the right fit.

I have been a patient here for several years and have received care in different departments. I originally chose this dental school because I thought it would be a more affordable option. However, based on my experience, I honestly cannot say that it is economical. I live almost two hours away, so I have to drive nearly two hours each way. On top of that, the appointments can take an extremely long time. First, you are seen by a student, and then you have to wait for a doctor or instructor to come and review everything and approve what is being done. Many times, I have spent more time sitting and waiting for the instructor than actually receiving treatment. Another frustrating part is that you often have to pay in advance, and then you can end up making multiple trips because something is not ready yet or another part of the treatment still needs to be completed. This makes the entire process even more time-consuming and difficult. I understand that this is a teaching environment and that students need supervision, but from a patient’s perspective, the process can be very frustrating. Considering the long drive, the waiting times, the multiple visits, and the way the treatment process is handled, I personally do not feel that it is as economical or convenient as it may seem. After being a patient here for several years, I would not recommend it based on my overall experience.

The receptionist are very loud and gossip which is typical but still unprofessional. However I love my dentist, prepare yourself for multiple appointments. I say if you need an emergency appointment go to your local dentist for a quick filling then come here. I saved thousands of dollars because my regular dentist tried forcing procedures on me that weren’t necessary. Do your research, oral hygiene affects your overall health!

I was quoted a price for my appointment at Tufts Dental, and when I arrived I signed an agreement at the office confirming that price. Staff then asked me to pay more than the amount on the agreement I had just signed. I pointed out that this didn't match, and they charged me the original agreed price. I considered the matter settled. It wasn't. Some time later, I found out my account had been sent to collections for supposedly unpaid medical bills, and my credit score took a hit. I paid exactly what my signed agreement said I owed. No one explained the discrepancy or contacted me to resolve it before sending it to collections. The care itself was also a bad experience. I was told the appointment would take three hours, but taking my X-rays alone took three hours. The student was rough and repeatedly unable to get the images, and in the end a dental technician had to step in and take them. I would not recommend this clinic.

As I read the other reviews It feels like it is either a good experience or awful. There seems to be no middle ground? My experience is the same. My first dental student was unfriendly and authoritative. I left the school feeling …

I have mixed feelings from my experience with the Tufts Dental School so far. When originally reaching out by email no one got back to me for over a week and I had to follow up for a response. Then I got the runaround between departments by email and had to insist yes they can and will use the panoramic xrays I had just had taken and I would not pay for another set. Finally I got a consult appointment but had to wait months, but it was free. The consult was fine, if a bit awkward since the dentist looks at you, types, looks at you, types, leaves to consult with someone, comes back, types, and finally they explain things. Made an appointment for wisdom tooth removal and had to wait months again. They do not do full sedation at all. When I was told they would do removal with gas I was clearly told that meant I could drive myself to the appointment. This is not true and no one will tell you you HAVE to have someone drive you and stay the whole procedure until literally two days before. The removal with gas and novacaine went fine as far as I can tell, but follow up information and care is 100% non existent. I got one generic printout about aftercare. No info on how long healing takes, when you can resume using a straw or eating normally, when stitches will come out, and no follow up appointment or even telling me to follow up with my dentist. I haven't tried calling the care line. The cost was low, but you pay upfront (card or check, no cash) and then have to ask for a refund if they change the plan during the appointment which is weird considering you're under the influence of medication at that point (and I had to remind them at the end of the appointment). That being said, the person at the desk and the dentist who performed my procedure were both extremely friendly. My consult took about an hour, and one wisdom tooth removal also took about an hour. I spent more time travelling in traffic to get there. After your consult you'll be bombarded with "How did we do" survey emails, but weird you don't get a single one after they actually do any work?
