What stands out most here is the restaurant’s focus on cơm tấm, the beloved Vietnamese broken rice dish that gives the business its identity. Reviewers repeatedly point to the combination plates as a favorite, especially plates built around char-grilled chicken, pork chop, egg cake, shrimp cake, and a sunny-side egg. Diners describe the char-grilled chicken as superb, while the pork chop is noted for being well marinated and juicy. The broken rice itself is part of the appeal, since its fractured grains soak up fish sauce well and create the distinct texture that fans of cơm tấm look for. Beyond the signature broken rice dishes, customers also mention other menu items that add variety to the experience. The atmosphere described by guests is another reason people seem comfortable coming back. One customer visited in the early evening and found the restaurant peaceful, while also noting that the dining room was clean and the service was quick. Those details suggest a straightforward, welcoming setting suited to everyday meals rather than a rushed or overly formal experience. For solo diners, couples, families, and friends meeting over lunch or dinner, Tuong Ky Com Tam appears to offer the kind of environment where the food stays the focus. In a city with many Vietnamese dining options, a clean space and efficient service can matter just as much as the food, especially for regular neighborhood visits.

This place is the best place in Houston to get a Vietnamese Com Tam (broken rice) combination plate. In Com Tam, the rice grains are fractured, and it absorbs dipping sauces such as fish sauce better, it also has a better mouth feel compared to regular rice. The owner is a guy who has seen me grow up from a little kid in elementary school to an adult past 30 years old. That’s how long I’ve been eating at his establishment, back when he operated the original location on Wilcrest. That location also burned down when I was a little boy but re-opened, and I have fond, nostalgic memories of eating there with my family after church. It remained opened for several years until recently closing and now this location on Bellaire is the main and sole operating place. No other Com Tam place in Houston slaps like this. I’ve grown up, moved far away, doing other things but I still make the hour drive to eat here from time to time, this place has a special place in my heart. Suggestions: Com Tam Bo Nuong, Tau Hu Ky, and Hot Ga (Grilled Beef, crispy skin tofu stuffed with ground shrimp, and a fried egg) Also, the best Banh Bot Chien (fried rice flour pancake & egg) is also located here. It is the crispiest Banh Bot Chien on Bellaire Blvd. The Won Ton noodles are also pretty good, I used to get it when I had a hangover or a cold back in the day.
"I visited in the early evening and the place was quite peaceful. The broken rice No. 6 here is delicious, especially the shrimp cake - it's incredibly fragrant and crispy. The waiter was cute and quick on his feet. The restaurant is also very clean. Highly recommended!
Been here a few times but never leave a rating. Today I came back with my wife, me with Bun Nuoc Leo, my wife with Com Tam 6 mon. Both were good! Bun Nuoc Leo nước thanh, vị ngon, hình như thiếu mắm me thì phải. Com Tam is my wife favorite, she always wants this dish. Satisfied overall.
One of the best places to get Cơm Tấm in town! Their pork chop is well marinatrd and juicy 😍 My favorite topping is the shrimp wrapped in tofu skin.
