Vegetarian House Vegan is a welcoming vegan restaurant in San Jose, CA, located at 520 E Santa Clara St, San Jose, CA 95112. For diners searching for plant-based food near downtown San Jose or across the South Bay, this spot is known for a menu that brings together Asian-inspired dishes, Western comfort flavors, and fully vegan desserts. With a 4.6-star rating from more than 1,250 reviews, it has built steady local trust among people who want meat-free meals that feel satisfying, varied, and easy to share.
The range of choices is one of the clearest reasons customers talk about Vegetarian House Vegan. Popular mentions include Eggplant Sizzle and Stroganoff, a pair that shows how the kitchen moves between bold, saucy Asian-style plates and creamy Western-style comfort food. Reviews also mention curries, rice-friendly entrees, and a wide vegetarian menu where everything is vegan. Taste expectations can vary from dish to dish, especially for diners comparing certain curries to typical Thai restaurant versions, but many guests appreciate having such a broad plant-based menu in one place.
The atmosphere is often described as beautiful, relaxed, and friendly, with staff who make the experience feel approachable rather than formal. That makes the restaurant a good fit for casual lunches, low-key dinners, takeout meals, and group orders where vegans, vegetarians, and curious first-timers can all find something to try. Some reviewers note that weekday service may be takeout or outdoor seating rather than traditional indoor dine-in, so it is wise to confirm the current setup before planning a longer sit-down meal.
Desserts add another reason to visit. Guests have called out tiramisu cake, strawberry cheesecake, and raw strawberry cream cake as memorable finishes after a savory meal. For a vegan restaurant in San Jose, that dessert selection helps the experience feel complete, especially for customers who want plant-based options beyond salads, sides, or simple bowls. It is the kind of detail that makes a quick order feel a little more special without changing the fully vegan focus.
For local SEO searchers comparing vegan food in San Jose, Vegetarian House Vegan offers a practical combination: a central address, a large review base, friendly service, reasonable prices mentioned by customers, and a menu that bridges Asian and Western cravings. It is especially useful for nearby residents, workers, students, visitors to downtown, and families or friend groups looking for meat-free food that still feels hearty. It also works well when one person wants comfort food and another wants something lighter or more Asian-influenced. If you want a dependable vegan restaurant in San Jose, CA with variety, desserts, and a welcoming feel, this Santa Clara Street spot is a strong place to start.

Sign in to reviewHonestly the best vegan restaurant in South Bay serving a mix of Asian-based foods and also Western-based foods. Best dishes are the Eggplant Sizzle and Stroganoff, but you really can't go wrong with any of the dishes with all dishes VERY reasonably priced. Note that it's takeout during weekdays and the dining room is open during weekends. They do have a nice parking lot with ~20 spots The food is flavorful and comes out quickly. They're very accommodating of allergies and can remove ingredients most times and showcase which allergies are in the food. The staff are friendly and quite attentive, although you do grab your own tableware from a communal table.
Nice service. A restaurant with every dish vegetarian very hard to find . The menu has exclusive with a wide variety. 5 out of the 8 dishes ordered were authentic to taste. Both curries we ordered were very weird tasting, not what we have eaten in a typical Thai restaurants in the past years .
Beautiful vegan restaurant, friendly staff and delicious Asian style foods. The desserts were also amazing. Our favorite was the tiramisu cake and the strawberry cheesecake.
What can I say? I mean, what did I learn upon my visit to this restaurant? Read the negative reviews as well. We chose this place coz I thought it’ll be great. I mean, sure the food was great, no doubt about that. However, this is not an indoor dine-in restaurant during weekdays, but rather an outdoor dine-in one (-0.5). There’s a QR code on the tables where you can scan it and order. Not really great honestly, especially if you’re worried about privacy and also data collection. You have no choice but order using the QR code. (-0.5) It’s also somehow self-service where you go pick up your food at the counter once you get a text (why did I even tip) and you put your stuff on the trash after you eat. There’s water on the side, so help yourself with that. (-0.5) There’s no restroom (-0.5) to go to once they close the restaurant (which they do at certain times and the reopen later). It was very inconvenient. We have to find a nearby place where we can use the restroom afterwards.
