I really loved the Lao Special menu. You can order small portion of diverse foods. I ordered several items I have never eaten before, and they were all fantastic. The fermented pork sausage was the most "out there" dish from an American point of view: I didn't even know such a thing existed. Nice interior, and the service is great. This is some of the best Laotian food I've tried in the Bay. It turns out the portions are pretty generous, so I took soke home for another meal.

Usually this place is pretty quiet with just a few people, but I went on a Friday night and it was packed (see photos). There were almost no seats available, so it felt like they were basically pushing takeout orders. That said, the food is delicious. It feels about as authentic as it gets in the Bay Area—similar to some of the spots I used to go to before they changed—so I’m glad places like this still exist. I ordered the pad Thai noodles with fried tofu, vegetarian rolls, mango sticky rice (so good), and Thai iced tea. Everything was great, but the mango sticky rice really stood out.

We often bring out-of-towners here because it's hard to find Laotian food outside of the Bay and Vientian Cafe always delivers. The menu is super extensive and very reasonably priced, so you can try a bunch of new things each time. We always get the nam kao and the lao sausage (which you can also take home frozen). Angel wings are also super addictive. Food also travels well if you're looking for takeout. One of our favorite spots in the east bay!

One of my ultimate favorite restaurants in the Bay Area! We come here at least once a month, and have been doing so for years. The food is so consistently on point and the service is great. Be sure to order the chx noodle soup, the nam koa, the som pak, and the green curry. 6-stars if I could… GOAT!!

My BF lived in Oakland for a couple of decades and never been here; so we thought we’d give it a try. Seems quite authentic, though we couldn’t quite stomach the fermented pork sausage. The fried version was good of course. Jeo Pa Dach was excellent, as was the quail. We’ll come back to try other dishes! It’s a small, simple, no frills restaurant.
