Vietnam Veterans of Oregon Memorial is a memorial park in Portland, Oregon, at 4000 SW Canyon Rd, Portland, OR 97221. It offers a place to pause, reflect, and remember Oregon service members who died during the Vietnam War. Rather than a conventional park visit centered on activities or amenities, time here is shaped by the memorial itself: its thoughtful architecture, winding route, and inscriptions invite visitors to move slowly and take in the stories along the way. The grounds are open daily from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., making it possible to visit at a time that suits your day.

The walk begins along a linear approach and passes beneath a curved bridge before joining a circular, spiral-like path. As visitors follow the route, alcoves and marble walls present names, brief descriptions, anecdotes, and facts connected with Oregon and the Vietnam War. The displays follow a timeline through the war years, giving the walk a clear sequence and encouraging visitors to stop at each section rather than rush through. The architecture is an integral part of the experience: crossing the small bridge and continuing around the spiral brings different parts of the memorial into view and creates a quiet setting for contemplation.

Visitors often describe the Vietnam Veterans of Oregon Memorial as peaceful, carefully maintained, and compelling in its design. The written accounts can make the history feel personal, prompting reflection on the people behind the names and on the lives they did not have the chance to lead. A reviewer who visited as a Vietnamese person shared a message of respect for fallen American soldiers and appreciation for their service, and described the visit as worthwhile. With a 4.8 rating from 303 reviews, the memorial has resonated with many people seeking a meaningful stop in Portland, though each visitor may connect with the place in a different way.

This Portland memorial is well suited to visitors who want a quiet walk with historical context, including local residents, travelers, families, and anyone interested in remembrance or Oregon history. Allow time to follow the full spiral path, read the inscriptions, and pause at the alcoves; the experience is most rewarding when approached at an unhurried pace. The memorial is open every day, 5:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m. Whether you come to pay your respects, learn from the plaques, or simply spend a reflective moment outdoors, the Vietnam Veterans of Oregon Memorial offers a focused and respectful place to remember those honored here.

This memorial, unique in its design, is a place of contemplation and remembrance. After entering up the linear walkway and passing under a curved bridge, the pathway winds around, first crossing that bridge, then along the continuing circular path are alcoves presenting not only the names of Oregon's losses in the Vietnam War, but also providing bits of local, state, and national history appropriate to the year(s) of each alcove. The final one lists the MIA's and provides a wonderful view of Mt. Hood and Portland to draw it all together. This is a very quiet, peaceful, wonderful place. Don't miss it when you visit the Zoo or the Forestry Center.

As a Vietnamese, I pay my utmost respect to fallen American soldiers and thank them for their services. This park is nice with a circular architecture inside. I came here for a walk and wanted to learn more about the memorial. The trip was amazing and worthy.

Awesome place, extremely well taken care of and peaceful. The actual shape of a spiral by which you walk and see plaques from each period with names, anecdotes and facts about oregon and the Vietnam war was very interesting and I loved …

I love the memorial. The brief descriptions of each year suck me always in and I end up wondering about those young soldiers who had no chance to grow old. The spot is beautifully architected.

Beautiful memorial and interesting stories on each of the marble walls to commemorate and remember those fallen. Be sure to take the spiral path across the little bridge to take in each of them based on a timeline of the years of the Vietnam war with the names of all those fallen.
