I've heard many good things about Voodoo Doughnut from various reviews on YouTube and friends but never made the attempt to go there. This last vacation of mine, I made it a personal goal to give Voodoo a shot and see how it is. I arrived pretty early on a Friday morning, around 9:00 a.m. and found the parking lot a bit empty. For sure, the morning rush passed or I made it in before the next rush. Bunch of teens around but they were in their own business and was no issue. I loved the Voodoo mural outside the pink building, good touch. I wish I wrote down the guy who gave us a good chuckle while we were here. Very polite and gave us a good welcome for our first trip to Voodoo Doughnut. Thank you kindly. I got a good laugh for several of the doughnut's names "Dirt", "Old Dirty Bastard", "Viscous Hibiscus", "Voodoo Doll", and others. There's also a mighty big donut there with a fun name but not sure if TripAdvisor would appreciate it if I typed it here. I won't lie, I wish I was a little more adventurous and tried some of the fun flavors but really wanted to try the legendary favorite of a "chocolate" donut. Nothing fancy, I just wanted to compare their chocolate donut with others I've had at other places. No lies here. The softness of the dough, its flavor, and the chocolate. I was surprised with the taste, it was great. It made other chocolate donuts feel like they were more like maple bars than chocolate. A real treat. I promised myself the next time I come to Portland, that I'll try their other flavors. A worthwhile stop for anyone needing to satisfy their sweet tooth.

I work down the street from here so I eat here several times a week. This is the first and only restaurant I have been to in my entire 33 years that remembers me and my order when I walk in. The staff here are some of the kindest people I have encountered in the city. There is this one employee in particular who always wears a very cool hat and jewelry. I adore him. He greets me with the kindness and warmth of an old friend. I am a janitor and I often feel small or unappreciated at my job because I'm the bottom of the bunch. So when I take my lunch and walk into this place with my favorite food painted my favorite color, it really makes a difference in my life that the employees treat me like they are actually happy to see me. Honestly, coming to get food here is one of the greatest joys in my life. Sometimes it's the thing that gets me through the day, and I mean that. The people who work here are so precious and beautiful. I am so grateful for all of them. They are the heart of that place and they keep me coming back. Love, "strawberry go-tart girl".
