Wat Mongkolratanaram Buddhist Temple is a welcoming Buddhist temple in Tampa, Florida, at 5306 Palm River Road, Tampa, FL 33619. Set beside the water, the temple is known not only as a place of worship but also as a lively Sunday gathering where visitors can experience Thai food, community, and the beauty of the grounds. Its 4.8-star rating from more than 2,600 reviews reflects the strong impression it makes on many guests, including people who have returned for years and first-time visitors discovering it for the first time.

The setting is a major part of the visit. Guests describe colorful temple buildings, distinctive architecture, gardens, and carefully kept landscaping, with orchid flowers decorating trees around the grounds. Picnic tables line the waterside, and a dock and open views offer a peaceful place to pause. The atmosphere feels warm and relaxed: visitors can take in the surroundings, sit outdoors, and enjoy a community space that is both scenic and welcoming. The temple may feel small inside, but reviewers describe the grounds and gatherings as a memorable experience.

On Sundays, food vendors make the visit especially appealing to people looking to try Thai dishes and drinks in an informal outdoor setting. Reviews mention noodles and a variety of foods, with plenty of seating and parking available, though the main lot can fill early on busy Sundays. This is not primarily a produce market, so visitors expecting rows of fruits and vegetables may want to know that food vendors are the main attraction. Bring cash, ideally in smaller bills, as reviewers note that vendors may accept cash only. Vendor selection, lines, and availability can vary, so arriving early may make the visit easier.

Wat Mongkolratanaram is a good fit for people interested in Thai culture, Buddhist temples, local food, and community traditions, as well as families and friends seeking an outdoor Sunday outing. Some visitors have also enjoyed traditional dance performances during certain free events; these are occasional, not guaranteed at every visit. Whether you come to appreciate the architecture, share a meal, or spend quiet time by the water, the grounds offer several ways to make the visit your own. As a place of worship, it is also worth approaching the temple and its community with courtesy and respect.

Because hours are not listed in the available business information and Sunday gatherings can be particularly popular, check current details before setting out. Plan for crowds, especially later in the morning, and allow time to find parking and choose from the food stalls. For anyone searching for a Buddhist temple in Tampa, a Thai food gathering, or a peaceful waterside place to explore, Wat Mongkolratanaram brings these experiences together in a distinctive local setting.

Visited on a Sunday - such a beautiful location right on the water. We came expecting a produce market with fruits and vegetables for sale, but it was mostly food vendors where you order different types of food and drinks. Still, we really enjoyed it. Plenty of parking, tons of seating, and a great view to just sit, relax, and enjoy the water. Worth a visit!

Beautiful template and beautiful grounds! Each building is stunning with vibrant colors and impressive architecture. The landscaping is beautiful and the trees are decorated with orchid flowers. There are gardens all around. There is a great view of the water with picnic tables all along and a dock that juts out. The monks and dancers did a performance walking in from the dock. There were many fish and stingrays around the dock. We came on a Sunday 9am-1pm to enjoy their market as well. I recommend the mango sticky rice 10/10, pumpkin curry, and fried bananas. It’s very peaceful here, and I would come back here on Sunday mornings.

CASH ONLY! Having smaller bills where they don’t have to break/give change helped the line go faster Went on Sunday to the temple, got there 5 minutes after they opened and the main/front parking lot was already full. Didn’t have any long lines around that time but the noodle line did take a few minutes to get through. By 10 when we left the lines were definitely longer. Was an enjoyable Sunday and the food was tasty!

I’ve been coming here for over 20 years, and it has changed a lot over time. When I first started going, there were only a few fold-out tables and maybe 20 to 25 people there. Now, on Sundays, it draws hundreds of people, possibly over a thousand, and it has grown into a very big community gathering. They serve food on Sundays and ask for donations. Over the years, it has become much more organized and commercialized than it used to be, but it is still a unique and worthwhile experience. The food is still decent, and the atmosphere is what keeps me coming back. This is a place I will visit again. For me, it deserves 5 stars because of the long history, the experience, and seeing how much it has grown over the years.

Although the temple is small, it is very welcoming and cozy. The Sunday market is a wonderful place to treat yourself to some delicious Thai food and, during certain free events, enjoy traditional dance performances. It is highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn more about and appreciate Thai culture and beliefs.
