X-Malatang X麻辣烫 is a casual hot pot restaurant located at 13908 Brookhurst St #A in the heart of Garden Grove, CA. Specializing in malatang — the popular Chinese-style customizable hot pot where you choose your own ingredients — this spot brings the build-your-own bowl experience to one of Orange County's most vibrant food corridors. Whether you are a longtime fan of Sichuan-style spice or just curious about trying malatang for the first time, X-Malatang offers a straightforward and approachable way to enjoy a steaming, flavor-packed meal.

The concept here is simple and satisfying. Guests select from a variety of fresh ingredients — including vegetables, meats, seafood, noodles, and specialty items like fish balls — and the kitchen prepares everything in your choice of broth or seasoning. One standout option that customers love is the spicy dry mix, a preparation without broth that concentrates the bold, numbing flavors malatang is known for. For those who crave serious heat, the menu includes a "wild" spice level that delivers an intense kick. Pricing is based on weight at approximately $15.99 per pound with a one-pound minimum, making it easy to customize your bowl to your appetite and budget.

The atmosphere at X-Malatang is relaxed and cozy, with a casual interior that encourages you to sit down, take your time, and enjoy your food. Reviewers frequently mention the friendly and attentive staff, who are quick to bring water and utensils to your table and keep the dining experience smooth and welcoming. Service is notably fast as well — boba and drink orders have been reported ready in as little as three minutes. It is the kind of neighborhood spot where you feel comfortable whether you are dining solo, grabbing a late bite with friends, or introducing someone new to the world of malatang.

Speaking of late bites, one of the biggest draws of X-Malatang is its generous operating hours. The restaurant is open every day from 11:30 AM all the way to midnight, making it a reliable option for lunch, dinner, or a late-night craving in Garden Grove. This schedule is especially convenient for night owls, shift workers, or anyone looking for a warm, flavorful meal after most kitchens have already closed. Just keep in mind that ingredient variety may be broader earlier in the evening, so arriving before the late hours could give you the fullest selection.

Beyond the hot pot itself, X-Malatang also earns praise for its drinks and desserts. The taro fresh milk is a highlight, made with real taro rather than artificial powder, giving it an authentic and creamy flavor. Customers also rave about the taro balls dessert, describing them as perfectly chewy and full of flavor. With a 3.9-star rating from over 30 reviews, X-Malatang has built a loyal following among locals who appreciate its honest flavors, friendly service, and the freedom to create exactly the bowl they are craving. If you are in Garden Grove and looking for a hot pot experience that is both customizable and affordable, X-Malatang is well worth a visit.

Decent malatang and pretty spicy if you choose the spiciest category called “wild”. Only complaint is the fish ball options weren’t that great and limited selection of meats, veggies and seafood. Reasonable price though at about $15.99 per pound.

Love that this place opens till midnight! Maybe bc I came around 10:30PM, the variety didn’t seem too huge to me. The ingredients also didnt seem super fresh to me, but again maybe bc I came late. We chose an open table and one of the workers got us water which was nice. There’s also a decent sized sauce bar with the basic essentials. The place was pretty spacious with a lot of open tables and is very clean. I got the beef base and did feel the soup was on the saltier side, but there’s flavor. I’d def come back as a late night craving

Their taro fresh milk is good. They use fresh taro instead of taro powder. The service is really fast, I just need to want 3 mins to get my boba. Love this place! ❤️
