Captain Quackenbush’s Coffeehouse is an absolute gem. From the moment you walk in, the space has such a warm, creative, neighborhood coffeehouse vibe—welcoming, eclectic, and full of personality. The pastry cases alone are dangerous in the best possible way, packed with everything from beautiful cupcakes and fresh pastries to an incredible selection of cookies that make choosing nearly impossible. I had the Vietnamese coffee and the shortbread cookies, and both were fantastic. The coffee was smooth, rich, and clearly well-crafted—exactly what you hope for from a true coffeehouse. But the real surprise? Those shortbread cookies. Absolutely delicious—perfect buttery texture, fresh, flavorful, and the kind of treat that has you immediately thinking about taking more home. What I loved most is that this place feels authentic—not a cookie-cutter coffee chain, but a spot with real charm, character, and attention to detail. The colorful decor, cozy atmosphere, and huge baked selection make it feel like a destination, not just a quick coffee stop. If you love great coffee, unique local spots, and baked goods that are actually worth the calories, Captain Quackenbush’s is a must-visit. Already looking forward to coming back.

f you’re looking for a classic, unpretentious Austin hangout, Captain Quack’s Coffeehouse & Bakery is a reliable choice. We dropped by during a special event, which meant we were limited to the cafe side, but the experience was still very positive. The Highlights The Cupcakes: These were the absolute stars of the show! Genuinely delicious, moist, and flavorful—easily the highlight of the bakery selection. The Coffee: The brew here is solid. It’s exactly what you want from a neighborhood coffeehouse: consistent, high-quality, and perfect for pairing with a pastry. The Vibe: The space itself is great for hanging out or catching up with friends. While the decor feels a bit "put together" and could perhaps use a little sprucing up to feel more cohesive, it adds to that quirky, lived-in charm that Austin is known for. The Experience Even with the main area occupied by an event, the cafe side provided a comfortable spot to sit and enjoy our treats. It’s a "decent" spot that doesn't try too hard, making it a low-pressure environment to just relax. Final Verdict: While the bakery as a whole is "alright," those cupcakes are a must-try. I'd definitely return to see the full space in action next time. It’s a 4/5 for the great sweets and dependable caffeine!

I enjoy this one better than the 43rd location since there's a lot of seating room inside and some outside. Also, there seems to be a few things that are sold here that aren't at the other one such as their ginger crackle cookies and the coffee cake that I got. Now, don't get me wrong.The coffee cake was delicious , but I had to pick out the walnuts because I was not a fan of that texture , but again , that's just me personally. Other than that , i'm glad it's also a little bit closer to me than the other location, so I may be by here to this one pretty soon especially to get a slice of their delicious key lime pie!

The vibe, atmosphere, and bakery were all 10/10 we will come back every time we are in Austin! But we found the coffee itself to be averagenal and there are better spots to get a drink.

Captain Quack’s on Menchaca is one of my go-to spots to get some work done and grab a coffee. Some drinks are better than others, but it’s still a solid place to hang out. It’s hard to say no to the chocolate chip cookies or the homemade pop tarts. They also host live music pretty often, so it’s worth checking the schedule ahead of time since the soundstage can be closed or booked. Overall, a great casual spot with a good vibe 🍪
