Unfortunately, I can’t recommend this firm based on my experience. We encountered repeated quality issues (multiple errors in tax filings) and the engagement required more oversight than it should have. Additionally, pricing was not transparent—fees increased by almost 100% later on without a clear, prior discussion or agreement. I expect an accounting firm to be meticulous, proactive, and upfront about scope and cost. This felt more like a process optimized for billing than client outcomes. Proceed with caution, especially if you value accuracy and predictable pricing.

I had been going to Chek Tan & Co for years without any issues, which is why what happened last year was so surprising and frustrating. Last year, they lost all of my paperwork after I had already submitted everything needed for my filing. Somehow the documents just disappeared on their end, which created unnecessary delays and stress during what is already a time-sensitive process. Then I was quoted over $800 for the same type of filing that I had paid around $350 for with them the year before. My situation hadn’t materially changed, and there was no clear explanation for why the cost had more than doubled. As a long-time client, that felt extremely unreasonable. It got even more concerning when I emailed them asking for clarification and they forwarded my email to the wrong recipient. Luckily the message didn’t contain extremely sensitive information, but the fact that my email was accidentally sent to someone else raises serious concerns about how client information is handled. On top of all that, they repeatedly told me my paperwork would be completed by specific dates, and each time those deadlines passed with nothing done. There were no proactive updates—just missed timelines and more frustration on my end. After years of smooth experiences with them, this level of disorganization and carelessness was honestly shocking. Losing documents, mishandling client emails, dramatically increasing prices without explanation, and failing to meet promised deadlines is not the level of professionalism I expected. Because of this experience last year, I ultimately decided not to continue using their services.

Stay away!!! Worst accounting experience I’ve had. Communication was unreliable—weeks of no response, missed commitments, and constant chasing. Our business tax work had material issues that we expected a professional firm to catch, and getting them addressed turned into a long time headache with excuses instead of solutions. If you want a firm that takes ownership and responds promptly, this is not it.
