The First Senior Center (FSC) is truly a gem in our community! From the moment you walk in, you can feel the warmth, energy, and sense of belonging. The facility is bright, clean, and thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of older adults while creating a welcoming atmosphere for all who visit. The staff is exceptional—friendly, compassionate, and dedicated to making every participant’s experience meaningful. From all FSC’s staffs to Ms. Dung manager or Ms. Von the owner, they go above and beyond to ensure everyone feels valued and engaged. Whether it’s offering a helping hand or simply sharing a smile, they make a genuine difference every day. The variety of programs and activities is impressive. From fitness classes and educational workshops to art programs, social events, and volunteer opportunities, there’s truly something for everyone. My family member has found a renewed sense of purpose and joy by participating in these activities, forming friendships, and staying active. I have been actively involved with the First Senior center for the past 8 years as a founding volunteer photographer beginning with their Grand Opening. I have been blessed to become a part of the First Senior Center community capturing thousands of photographic memories through the years that I am able to share with the senior members via social media. The images include the annual Vietnamese and American holiday events, anniversaries, birthdays, memorial remembrances, fashion shows, singing and dancing performances and much more. The First Senior Center has become a home away from home for the seniors, sharing friendship and companionship with each other. I do not speak the Vietnamese language nor do many of the members speak English, but there is a special bond with the seniors as they are excited and comfortable when we see each other knowing it is their special ‘photo time’. As for me, I enjoy seeing the joy and laughter on their faces whether it be individual photos or larger group photos with their friends. They have come to expect to see their photos on the First Senior Center Facebook page within a few days of the events which they are able to download, cherish and share the forever memories with their friends and families. The impact the First Senior Center has had on me personally are experiencing the years of friendships between the seniors, watching the dance floor fill to capacity, listening to the seniors with ageless energy perform on stage with great confidence and passion. Truly a community! The First Senior Center community embraces everything that Mrs. Von Tran provides; daily authentic Vietnamese meals, an on-site health care facility, multi-vehicle transportation provided for those who have limited mobility access, and a benefit that can only be stated as the feeling of being welcomed…as part of this wonderful family. Mrs. Von Tran, with heartfelt compassion, places the seniors before money. The First Senior Center does not treat the seniors as a transaction but as extended family needing care, love and respect in later years, and for this reason she goes miles above to help them. It is truly a second home for the seniors, and a reunion I look forward to with each event. The First Senior Center will continue to be a priority in capturing these timeless memories. I highly recommend First Senior Center to seniors needing a place to come to find happiness amongst their peers with similar age and interest so that they do not feel isolated at home in boredom. I also highly recommend the First Senior Center for those looking for a place to volunteer. When you come to volunteer you do not have to speak the language but you will feel the love. The staff and volunteers speak English well and all operations are done systematically in an orderly manner so seniors and volunteers will not feel out of place. My name is Giau, which translates to “rich” from Vietnamese. I may be a simple man, but I’m rich in love for my children and my wonderful wife. I first learned about First Senior Center through my wife, who often spoke about how much she enjoyed volunteering there. She’s a social butterfly who loves helping seniors, whether by driving them to appointments or assisting them with social services. I, on the other hand, am more of a homebody and don’t usually go to public places. One day, my wife invited me to join her for lunch at First Senior Center. I hesitated at first but was curious about the place she and my mother-in-law kept encouraging me to visit. So, I decided to check it out—and wow, was I surprised! Seeing it on Facebook is one thing, but experiencing it in person is completely different. I never imagined a senior center could be so beautiful! It’s well-organized, clean, and spacious, with every detail designed thoughtfully to meet the needs of the elderly. The environment is warm and welcoming, but it doesn’t feel like a typical “old person’s place.” Everything is done with a five-star quality—no detail is overlooked. The combination of a lovely atmosphere, delicious food, friendly staff, and the care from the owners creates an exceptional experience. The state-of-the-art sound and lighting system, along with the beautifully designed stage, sets the perfect backdrop for seniors to sing, dance, and have a great time. No wonder my wife loves spending her time there! After my first visit, I was asked by First Senior Center to lead various classes, including English and digital literacy programs. Never in my life did I imagine I’d be teaching at a senior center! But here I am. Unless my children call us away for a family vacation, my wife and I spend much of our time volunteering at First Senior Center. We see the amazing work they do for the elderly—putting their health, happiness, and well-being above all else. That’s rare these days, especially when most businesses are focused solely on profits. Thank you, First Senior Center, for giving us the opportunity to serve the elderly. It has brought so much joy and meaning to our lives. I am writing this review with my daughter’s encouragement to share my experience at First Senior Center. For the past couple of years, I have been attending First Senior Center with my daughter, Thuy, who volunteers there. She encourages me to stay active and get out of the house. While I don’t sing or dance like she does, I truly enjoy watching others, having simple conversations with fellow seniors, and, of course, savoring the hot, delicious breakfasts and lunches served daily. Whenever I come to First Senior Center, I feel a profound sense of community and connection—something that isn’t easy to find in this foreign land we now call home. A gentle smile, a nod, or a warm touch goes a long way, especially on days when aches and pains weigh heavily on us. As seniors, we carry many physical burdens, but when we step into First Senior Center, those pains seem to fade away, even if just for a few hours. From 9 AM to 2 PM, I feel like I’m in a little paradise where I can forget about the discomfort in my aging body. I know this feeling isn’t unique to me; many other seniors I sit with at the same table share the same sentiment. Naturally, I look forward to coming to First Senior Center every chance I get.
