H-E-B plus!

I had an amazing experience at the H-E-B location in Pearland. It was truly inspiring to see the effort and intention put into honoring Black History Month in such a meaningful and educational way. The display celebrating innovators and trailblazers was thoughtfully curated, and I’m especially grateful they included my work as a featured digital artist. It means a lot to see art used not just for decoration, but as a tool for storytelling, culture, and community impact. Huge appreciation to the team for supporting artists and creating space to highlight Black excellence. This is how you make a real difference at the community level. Ms.Mary and the rest of the customer service team, Tonisha, Thomas, Samuel, a man with a curly afro whose name I forgot to get, the other managers and team members in bakery and produce, Braden & the other guy at register 7 were extremely helpful today! Tonisha and Thomas were able to track down the distribution of an item that I wanted to request in less than 5 minutes to see if they could get it in store. They were super kind and knowledgeable! Samuel also was exceptionally quick in helping me, he found more of the Fuji apple juice I like in the back and mentioned ordering more if there weren’t any. They keep everything available, organized, and efficient for a quick and easy checkout! Great produce and bakery options! Thanks HEB team, you’re amazing, especially during this pandemic! They all wore masks and kept a safe distance while helping me! Thank you!!

I stopped by H-E-B after work today to pick up a few things. I bagged most of my groceries myself, but the cashier finished up and asked if I wanted a paper bag. He put my bread, Oreos, tuna, and a few other items in it. As he handed it to me, the bag split down the side. Instead of replacing it, he pushed the torn bag toward me and said, "Be careful, the bag is split." Now, I work at Trader Joe's, where bagging groceries is something we take pride in. My coworkers and I are constantly recognized for the care we put into bagging customers' groceries. If a bag tears, we replace it. If something is too heavy, we double-bag it. We don't hand customers a problem and send them on their way. The issue wasn't that the bag tore. Bags fail sometimes. The issue was that the cashier knew it was torn and still expected me to deal with it. On my way out, I politely pulled the manager aside and explained what happened. Customer service isn't just about ringing up groceries—it's about taking ownership and making things right when something goes wrong. Maybe it's because of where I work, but I believe the little things matter. Sometimes a torn grocery bag says a lot about a store's commitment to customer service.
